Wow, that's quite a sermon. I have had training in several self protection topics as well as LTC. None of them ever said anything except the first thing to do if you are ever in an active shooter situation is GTFO of there and call the police. You are not the police, and have no business trying to defend a shopping center food court from anyone. If you think it is your job, just hope when the police get there that they don't think you are the shooter and put a bullet between your eyes. You sound like one of those guys who gets a gun and runs around hoping to find the chance to use it. There are always a few of you in every class I have taken too. Have fun with that. I guess I am definitely a different person than you are. You are what is frequently referred to as a "cowboy".....
Guess I shouldn’t even carry a gun then. And why do you go to classes if you are not the LEO’s that are going to respond? Just for gaming?

And I think it is my job to protect myself and those I love. And I know what to do when LEOs arrive, drop your weapon and get on the floor arms and legs spread. Not to hard actually.

Thanks, but I doubt I would be considered a “cowboy” in most situations. Old guy with a service dog “puttering” around. Carrying what others consider “obsolete”, G26. Just living the dream.

Be safe Boo!

I went to classes to learn how to shoot, gun safety, gun maintenance and laws and situations to get an LTC. In every one of those it was stressed that you carry a handgun to protect yourself in a situation where your life is threatened and you have no other alternative.....like GTFO ! They explicitly and emphatically train you that you are not carrying a gun to take responsibility for anyone else but yourself and your family. Something I saw somewhere indicates that you are an ex-LEO. Can't believe you are encouraging others to shoot up a shopping mall food court from 35 yards....just can't believe it.

If you have the eyes for it. My eyes aren’t what they use to be. I need all the help I can get, especially inside. And that is probably where I would have to use it.
I'm with you regarding the eyes. I use a red dot (RMR 2.5 mil dot). As long as that dot is on the target and I shoot as soon as it's on the target, it's a hit.

As far as red dots, self defense distance etc. Next time your in a supermarket , walmart , etc. Look down a long aisle and imagine it was crowded and an active shooter were at the end of it.

The dot also give you the advantage of remaining target / threat focused vs. Front sight. You can de-escalate or engage as necessary.
Optics etc are force multipliers, tools, capability enhancement etc. Treat it as such and train accordingly.

I had my Gen 3 milled for a dot. It wears a Swampfox dot, TLR-6 and Strike Industries suppressor height sights. I carried it quite a bit, but now it sits in the safe. I carry a 43x MOS on duty now with a TLR-7 and Holosun 407k. Off duty is either the 43x or a FN Reflex MRD with the same light and dot.

I would have zero problem carrying my 26 again, and the dot only made it better. It definitely extended my range. I just grip the 43x better.
