Not a dumb question at all. I am surprised that the gun was sold to you with only 10 rounds though (assuming it was new). Usually that is only done in states that require it if I'm not mistaken.
I wondered the same thing but the OP didn't state if the10 round capacity was the only option that he could find during his search.
I'm in the military so I bought it through the PX website and 10 round mags were the only option even though the state I'm currently in allows 15. I was so excited to see them in stock when it's unavailable on every website I've searched so I just bought it without even thinking. Can't wait to pick it up when it arrives at the local PX.

Few purchases feel as good as picking up a new firearm. I'm envious :)

Hit the range and make some friends. Someone may give you a mag or two of decent hollowpoints. I've done it recently for my kid and her boyfriend. Also my mechanic. Most gun guys are always willing to help each other.

Back in the AWB days, Glock started making 10 rd mags for the G19. They worked fine with RN, but had a lot of misfeeds with JHP. I bought 3 for travel to "bad" states, and none of them would work consistently with any JHP I tried.

A few years later I tried 3 more, Glock had changed the design a little.
They wouldn't work either (2 different G19.3 with 3 different JHP)

There is a modification I did to the follower that did make them fully reliable but I don't have the instructions any more.

One of the problems today is that few people have an extra 50 rds of their carry ammo to test each new mag. Since the problems can be intermittent, just running 10 rds through the mag as a quick test isn't adequate.

Last I looked, there was lots of info about this on the California gun owners web forum. Too bad I can't remember the url.

Hi all,

This may sound like a stupid question but I'm new to gun ownership so here goes. I've been able to place an order online for the Glock 19 Gen 5 with 10 round mags. I live in Virginia which allows 15 round mags. My question is this - I can simply get 15 round mags and put it in the Glock 19 Gen 5 and it'll fit/flush correct? I just purchased the 10 round mags without hesitating as it seems almost impossible to get your hands on one these days. Thanks for the help.
As others have stated above, there is no difference in the outside dimensions of a 10 or a 15 round magazine. The differences are all internal. The pistol was designed originally for the 15 round mags. The 10 round mags didn't come until much later due to politics in the 90's. t that time Glock developed the 10 round mag to comply with those policies. And some of the less free/communist run states still mandate 10 round mags. But they are interchangeable. After getting the 15 round mags, hang on to the 10 rounders for spares.

In regards to ammo, right now due to the media-induced panic, ammo prices are stupid high. It will be that way for, I'm projecting, another six months and then you'll see the supply catch up with the demand and the prices start to return towards normal. So FMJ may be what is available unless you're lucky enough to find hollow points. Find what you can find until things get better.

Congrats on the Glock 19.

The exterior dimensions of the magazines are the same. The internals have been modified to allow only 10 rounds for states that have laws limiting the capacity.

Your G19 will use either mag since they are the same external size.

As others have said, the G19 will use G17 mags as well.

If you want to be able to buy more of those nice, juicy standard (aka high) capacity mags make sure you get out and vote:
TRUMP 2020!!!
