P365/.380 is pretty sweet

Ive rekindled my love for the .380 cartridge lately. Yesterday I shot a buddys new P365/.380 and its really sweet and fun to shoot, just like a G42. Its soft shooting and follow ups are very fast and accurate. Its has a good trigger and with its 12 round magazines I think its a legitimate self defense weapon.

But more so .380's are fun paper plinkers. I dont regret buying my LCP and LCP/Max. They is what they is, pocket pistols with pretty bad triggers that are there strictly for self defense. But the P365/.380 is fun to shoot just like the G42 is.

I see the .380 in the middle of a resurgence. What think you?

I absolutely love the P365-380. I really like the Glock 42, but I have shot the P365 9mm platform so much that switching over to the G42 platform required adjustment in the trigger and presentation departments. Now, it's the same. The P365-380 is lighter than the 9mm P365 and can be fired at a much higher rate of speed due to the minimal recoil. It is a much better gun than the 9mm P365 for the person who only shoots occasionally. I think that it is a good gun for the "one gun" person because it can be made large enough for home with 12 round magazines and yet it is small enough for carry. The only caution with anything in .380 is to be sure to vet the ammo against a variety of targets, including barriers. I have shot a lot of different types of ammo in .380 and really don't trust the commonly recommended ammo in this caliber.

I carried 380's in the 1980's when we had no small options. I was a city cop in those days and saw a lot of people shot. The 380 being a low power round was always unpredictable. Sometimes it worked great, sometimes it sucked bad. I did and still do prefer more constant performers. I carried a 357 magnum for decades. I place the 380 and the 38 snubby in the same category and no use for either as a carry option. TISNTAAFL.

The 365 is a perfect example, the 9mm is available in the same gun. The only logical reason is for someone who can't handle anything more.

A retired state cop at my club told me the same thing when I told him I wanted a Glock 42. He said get a 48.

Is it that much smaller than the 9mm? Less recoil will be good for many

P365 .380 is the exact same size as the 9mm version, except the slide is lighter and narrower. from what I can tell.

FCU and grip module are the same size. I want to get P365 .380 and add the Wilson grip module, as I find the P365 grip just a bit too narrow for my hands.

Before I got the Sig I frequently carried my 642 revolver. This morning I weighed my 642 snub and the P365 380, both with my normal carry loads. 642 with 148 gr wadcutters and the 380 with 90 gr FTX HP. The Sig weighs 3 oz more.

Considering that the semi auto has double the capacity (10 vs 5), and with my choices of ammo, the 380 produces more energy with each round and that it is easier to shoot accurately and fast, the Sig has become my favorite EDC.

From where I started, the P365 380 represents an upgraded defensive capability. For someone starting at a different point of comparison, maybe not so much.

I carry a .380 sometimes…a J-Frame, also. Both of the guns are good for when I’m alone and an occasion arises when I need to break contact. I choose a different, more capable piece if the family comes along or if I’m in the field. My P3AT and M638 also make decent backups.

I've been saying this for years. There is a huge need for full-size .380 pistols. The market has really neglected this segment. A full size, full capacity, Glock 19 size .380 pistol would sell like hot cakes.

Beretta just introduced their new Cheetah 80X .380 that has a 13 round capacity and a 3.9 inch barrel.

I hope Sig releases an XL length slide and longer grip frame and 15/17 round mags for this .380 pistol.

Smith has the EZ380, but its an unreliable piece of junk and only has 8 round mags. Make it a double stack with 13/15 round mags, and make it reliable, and it would sell great.

You mean a Glock 25, it would just have to be made here.

While I liked the G42 I never went ga ga over a .380 then I did shooting that 365. To me the .380 was always strictly a working caliber and usually either a 2nd or a concealable summer gun. Which is why I bought the LCP Max and despite the fact the trigger sucks and the thing shoots low, with those types of things I can adjust myself to the gun.The big thing is it now goes "Bang" reliably.

But the 365/.380 was fun to shoot, easy to shoot, accurate, and had good sights and trigger stock. Now really I can think of few things I need less then another .380 and the fact I'm considering one shows you how much I liked it.

Proving once again shot placement is king.

Princip’s first round entered the Archduke’s neck piercing his jugular, cutting the vein and lodging itself in his spine. The .380 ACP projectile mushroomed as it struck Franz Ferdinand’s neck tissues losing its momentum before lodging in his spinal column, probably somewhere in his Cervical vertebrae. Considering how difficult to pick up the Model 1910’s sights are Princip was either extremely lucky to hit the Archduke or was a skilled snap shooter.

.380’s are good options. Traveling the world, working with different militaries and police, it’s funny to see most of the world using .380’s and even calling them 9mm’s to deal with threats effectively, then in America, some people think only the 9mm NATO or .45 is effective.

I like and own a lot of .380’s and carry them the most. Even when I was a uniformed police officer with a full size duty gun, I had a .380 BUG.

Only .380 I bought that was junk, was a knock Glock .380 that Diamondback released. Glock 42 and Khar P380 I like best for carry. My .380 Colt pony’s are more for formal events with my Colt 1911’s. Might check out the P365 .380.

The cost for .380 (aka 9x17) vs 9mm (aka 9x19) is a major factor for many people. Arguably .380 was on the way out in the US before the LCP brought it back. I've got three guns in that caliber, Sig 232, Glock 42 and Magnum Research Micro Desert Eagle. They're all fun to shoot and the MDE is about the most easy pocket carry out there. Also a big fan of 9mm Makarov (aka 9x18).

I really like the p365 .380. My usual EDC is my LCP in pants or jacket pocket. In colder months, it will be a 642 in the jacket pocket.

If I can carry on my belt, in those situations where I won’t have to be ditching the jacket I’ll take the Sig. It replaced my G42 (also a great gun) and knocked my beloved 232 out as my favorite carry. It fits my hand better than the 42 and feels, to me, like shooting a .22. Big blocky sights, shoots to point of aim and has been utterly reliable.

I do have a Hellcat and it has the similar endearing characteristics as the Sig: fits my hand well, great sights and it’s reliable. Seems a little heavier and is definitely snappier, but still, it’s just 9mm recoil so not much.

Should I just carry the Hellcat and not the Sig? Well, maybe. But I like and shoot the Sig more often. Unless that changes, I’m sticking with the Sig.

i can't get any gun that came about after the Gen III Glocks due to this state's draconian laws. I have several 380's, the Glock 42 which just squeaked through, several Walther PPK, PPK/s, and PP, and a Sig P238HD with the Sig night sights. My favorite is the P238, it is possibly one of the most accurate guns I have for SD.

I sold my Glock 42 for an Sig 365 .380… Never looked back better gun all the way around…
-Better Sights
-Easier to rack and manipulate
-Shoots waaaay lighter under recoil
-Fits in hand better
-More ammo capacity

The only con was the curved trigger which I just had changed out for the Sig Oem flat trigger blade.

FYI will reliably feed 365 9mm extension mags as well!!
