Wasn't the USP the first gun with a rail?

Actually, it was the Mk23 and the USP followed on shortly afterwards. But yes, HK was putting light rails on their handguns while the rest of them lacked the innovation and vision to do so. Same with polymer pistols. HK was again a leader in the field and every successful polymer framed pistol since then owes their success to HK and their pioneering work in the field.

USMC is correct many people credit glock with bringing plastic (whatever fancy term you want to use go ahead but it is plastic to me) frame guns to market when in reality h&k brought the first one to market a couple decades prior to the glock being produced

Wonder how sturdy they are?

I've had a cheap mount on my USP for years with a light attached and have shot thousands of rounds with it on and never had an issue, just doesn't look sleek and streamlined as that one.

Might be time for an upgrade :)
Yes, it's not going anywhere once on the gun, and it doesn't hang as low as the cheaper chinese made rail adaptors. My brother had a rail adaptor laying around somewhere and it's significantly lower than the GG&G

True, but GLOCK made them mainstream. Admittedly, the VP70 wasn't a commercial success, as was the GLOCK. HK's post GLOCK offering though are very solid. My P30L is my favorite plastic gun (well, unless the STI 2011 counts :whistling:).

Puh-leeze!!! HK put the rail on the MK23 because of the RFP's requirement. Colt did the same thing with their version of the SOCOM Pistol for the MK23 trial. Colt lost but that was no surprise.
