My P365 slide is headed back to SIG...

Was shooting Friday. Suddenly, my groups started moving farther and farther left...looked at the slide to see this:

It was centered when I started, dangit.

Luckily SIg was quick to answer the phone this morning and sent me a return label quickly - I'll keep y'all posted...

In the meantime, bought a Shield Plus yesterday and after shooting it today, it may take over as my primary carry. It shoots like a much bigger gun.

Sight pushing tool is well worth having but most LGS will fix this for free, or maybe 20 bucks max if anything.
I'm beginning to lean more into agreeing with the people who say red dots have become more reliable than iron sights. lol

My shield came with misaligned sights and S&W just told me that they don't align the sights. I'm honestly impressed that Sig didn't just tell him to take it to a gunsmith.

I love my X Macro. It's been heavily modified but in it's form, it's my favorite gun to shoot. Ergonomics, reliability, basically everything about it has been great.

It's one thing to start fixing your old guns.
But new ones, that's on the manufacturer. It's a good decision to let them have first crack at any repairs on their new guns. If you start the repairs yourself, and run into something, that gives them an out to not cover the work. Once they have had a fair chance to make it right, then you can move forward with the home repairs

I wanted to like the P365 some kind of bad. I waited a little while to see if they had the hiccups worked out before I bought one. It rusted after 9 months or carry. I sent it back. I got it back and they said they fixexd the issue. Next the magazines began to rust. I sent them back and when I got new magazines I sold it. A year or so later I thought I would buy another one, giving SIG the benefit of the doubt. This one had the front site fall off within a month after only 150 rounds give or take. Then 3 months later it began to rust too. So I traded it to a guy who kept it for a little bit then sent it back to SIG and they sent him a whole new barrel and slide assembly. They told him it was a QC issue in the metal or something.

First, I would not send a gun back for a simple sight fix, but thats me. Lots come here on this Sig post talking about the Shield. Yeah well I have a Shield and the Sig 365. People state the Shield shoots like a bigger gun, well yeah its much bigger then the Sig. My shield sits in the safe as I prefer the Sig. One thing S&W has never bothered to fix on these Shields is the stiff slide stop/release. Yes, I use them as a slide release and its stiff as can be, dont like it actually hate it. The Sig shoots plain and simple, its highly accurate with some Sig 124 gr V crown as this article talks about . 1.5 inch group at 25 yards . Plus I can use 10, 12 ,15, 17, 21 round mags in it

I won’t say I will never go back to a 365 or Shield plus either, because of the issues I dealt with but I guess I am just content with my 43, 43x and 19x. The 365 has a great option of factory OEM magazines in all different sizes that is really appealing to alot of people myself included.

I disagree with those who are telling the OP to use a sight pusher and Loctite. The current sight or slide is out of spec. This should not happen with a new gun. Sig needs to fix it.

I will agree with those who have said that the Shield is the better gun out of the two. Unless you are planning to pocket carry there's no real benefit to the P365 over the Shield Plus. Both can be easily belt carried.

I totally agree. This may be a SIG slide machining error (bad dovetail cut), and nothing we can do at home will ADD metal to the dovetail to fix it properly to make it smaller!

If it is a sight issue (XRay out of spec), SIG needs to know that for two reasons. Reason one is to tighten up quality control metrics and testing for incoming product receiving from XRay. Reason two is to put processes in place so that as the sights are added to the slides the SIG assembly folks recognize the bad fit if bad sights come into inventory, and they catch the issue prior to the gun leaving manufacturing. Both of these are addressable. But if SIG doesn't know, they don't look, and if they don't look they can't address it!

SIG needs to fix it AND to know there is an issue so they can resolve the issue. I am glad this slide went back, and will be interested to see what the fix was!

You should not have to bubba the sight and fix a new gun. I reckon if this was a Taurus or not a manufacturer/model many already own and were fanboys of, they would be bashing the manufacturer and recommending the gun be sent back. Many make excuses for, downplay, rationalize, and hold "hight tier" and more expensive firearm manufacturers to a lower standard than they hold those who manufacturer budget guns. I personally expect more when I've paid for it. We all paid $500-$700+ for a higher tier firearm over a Taurus Gx4, for example, because we didn't want to deal with QC issues.

I've owned and carried them all. G43, Walther PPS M2, Shield 1.0, Shields 45, Shield Plus, Kahr MK9 (PM9 size), Kahr K9, Kel Tec PF9, Ruger LC9, Hellcat, Sig P938, DiamondBack DB9, etc., etc.

I'm a smaller frame guy who's not that tall. Probably smaller than everyone else in this thread. I have never had an issue concealing a P365 sized gun vs Shield (traditional single stack) sized gun on my hip. It's basically diminishing returns and a negligible difference for me IWB on the hip. I purchased mouse guns, PM9, Hellcat, Sig P938, DB9, and micro sized guns for the purpose of being able to pocket carry or carried OWB without having to worry about the barrel peekabooing from under my untucked T-shirt. I see no point in going that tiny if you're not going to deep carry.

Since it’s new, I would have told Sig to just send me a new slide and I’d send this one back in. That way I’m not waiting. They can sell that one as a refurbished
Agreed, but they probably wouldn't do it.

Correct.

I had a sight issue with the first Shield Plus I bought. It shot waaayyyy to the left. I tried hammer and brass punches on the front sight and only succeeded in marring the side of the front sight. Ordered a front sight pusher from Amazon. No luck so sent it back. Finally got my heavy duty sight pusher out. The Shield slide tapers top to bottom so fitting it in the sight pusher isn't easy like a slab sided Glock. I also had to soak the front sight three full days and nights with two different brands of metal loosing oils. Still wouldn't budge with normal pressure so I finally fitted my 6" hex wrench to it and pushed for all I was worth. The front sight finally broke loose with a loud CRACK that my wife could hear upstairs. Took the gun and the sight pusher back to the range. After breaking loose the first time I was able to easily dial it in at the shooting bench with the sight pusher. Had I not had the pusher and some experience with moving/replacing sights I would have tried to send it back to Smith.

Also had a similar problem as the OP with my second Glock 43. Test firing it for the first time the rounds were all over the target. I finally pushed on the rear sight with thumb and forefinger. It was so loose it slide easily side to side in the dovetail and was moving around under recoil so it would never have been usable. Since I won't put up with Glock factory sights I just bought the after market sights I had intended to anyway, but a new handgun owner would not have been as experienced or fortunate as me.

I think it is good Sig sent a return slip to the OP. When I complained to Glock about my two new Gen4 G19s hammering my face with hot empties they told me, and others with the same problem, that my guns had all the updated parts so there was nothing they could do.

I have five P365s in different flavors and to date not a single bobble with any of them. I much agree that the Shield Plus models are excellent shooting handguns and I own two of them. Still carry my 365s more because they are smaller and do conceal easier for me and have higher capacity than my G43s. My Shields are not a threat to my 365s, but have been a threat to my double stack mid-sized guns like my G19s, PPQs, M&P 2.0, etc. Those guns go to the range but are rarely on my person anymore. In jacket and coat weather my Shields with 13-round magazine in place and a 15-rounder as backup have mostly displaced those mid-sized double stacks for my carry use.

As far as rolling changes to handguns, Glock has been well known for that for years. Occasionally over the years some posts have been made here detailing a list of those changes. Nothing wrong with that at all. Improvements are good. After all, how many complaints about brass to face in Glock 19s do you see posted here anymore? None in some time that I can remember. They must have learned something from Apex whose extractor kits certainly fixed my Glock 19 BTF problems along with those of many others.
Good points. Yes, the Smith guns are a close second for most difficult sights I've ever done, behind the infamous XD line. I never have used a sight pusher. As you mentioned, due to varying slide contours, they don't work half the time.

Used to use brass or delrin punches, but I just use my custom made by me steel punch. Using a steel punch you must be careful to avoid really buggering the sight, but I've gotten good at it. Never have damaged a sight or broken a tritium vial. Few layers of masking tape on the punch, and after a few solid hits, the tape must be moved to a fresh point.

The slide arrived back at my house today. They replaced the front sight. Point in Sig's favor - 7 day turnaround from me calling to receiving the slide back. Point against them - no communication that they had sent the slide back. Since it came signature required, it's just luck that someone was home today - emailing shipping info would have been nice.

Hopefully will get to the range tomorrow to test.
