A first look at the new Mk47 AKS13 and some of the upgrades to the Mutants for 2016.

I have to say, I'm having a lot of fun with this thing

Umm, could you be a little more specific about the upgrades?
Sure. I was trying to get a initial first look and impression video up. I don't think anyone else has a "in the wild" review of one up yet. Or at least as of last week anyway.

So that's sort of where my main focus was. That and being about 10 degrees outside the brain and fingers only go so far, lol. I'd need to go back over my notes but the biggest thing for the Mutant is the staked and pinned gas block and the key on the handguard. For the AKS13 specifically, that collar on the Krink device makes it much less prone to failures. I'll have a more through article (at www.13Cgunreviews.com ) on the technically data and a full video review of it done within the next two weeks. Temps will be back in the 20's-30's this weekend and I should have some free time to do it right if my day job schedule cooperates.

Great video!

What ammo were you using during the rapid fire sequences with the Mutant? THANKS!

Thank you, I appreciate that.

I was using Wolf FMJ. I don't recall if it was WPA or military classic though.

It's a 7.62 chambered AR15.

Nice, but nothing ground-breaking. They've been around for quite a while now.
While AR pattern rifles chambered in x39 have been around for a while, they are known to suffer from reliability issues. The constant curve of the AK style magazine and the taper wall cartridge are a big part of what make an AKM pattern rifle so reliable. Trying to feed those rounds through an AR style mag with the straight magwell leads to inherent issues.

The Mutant is able to capitalize on the reliable feeding of the tapered x39 cartidge by avoiding the AR style mags and magwell and let the x39 work as it was designed.

The Mutant also uses a larger dia bolt than most manufacturers that bore out a 223 bolt to accept the rim of a 762x39 case which leaves the bolt very thin.
Yep, that is a huge plus. It also has a massive extractor and midsized bolt carrier designed to handle the 7.62 caliber. Add that with running with 99% of surplus magazines and it's a very cool package.

I'd prefer a side charger for it but I just replaced the latch with a larger one and it's not that big of a deal.

I've got a Bushnell red dot on my Mutant and at 50yds it is scary accurate, I mean AR sized groups. This is the most accurate 762x39 semi that I've ever shot.
I would totally concur with "scary accurate". I just did a review of a Monarch 3 3-12x and did it with the AKS13. I was honestly shocked. My next step is putting a Geiselle SSA in it.
