Lone Wolf Dist Signature Series 19 PVD coated. Issues with PVD coating. Is this common?

I hope I am in the right spot.

I just want to comment and ask a question about my Lone Wolf Signature Series 19 with a Trijicon RMR01 and PVD coating by Lone Wolf. Lone Wolf Dist offers cerakote, PVD, as well as some other coatings and options.

Lone Wolf Dist coated the slide, back plate, trigger shoe and magwell. Beautiful job! It was a one of a kind and the color was awesome. Looked great for only a few months, it did not take long for it to discolor, fade, and overall wear off. Some spots are worse than others, some is worn off, some of it is just discolored.

This is my first firearm that is coated with PVD technology. I have had great long-term success with cerakote in the past. So has anyone had any issues with PVD? I take excellent care of my firearms, clean and maintain after every range trip and just can not figure out if this is my fault some how or if PVD is just common to wear off like this?

Any comments, questions, concerns, etc are very welcome. Just trying to figure this out, I would like to get the parts re-coated and do not know if this was a fluke, and would be ok to recoat in PVD or just go with Cerakote.

To comment on the firearm itself, it is superb. High quality, great shooter, very reliable. It is a blast to shoot never had any issues with it at all, other than the PVD coating wearing off.

I attached some pictures, it is a bit hard to tell in the pictures, I hope it gives you somewhat of an idea what is going on. See the backplate has mostly worn off and the slide serrations are

Thank you all, sorry for being long winded.

I bought the gun brand new with the coating from Lone Wolf less than a year ago. I bought it in early March, received it end of June, early July of 2017.
I do not believe there is any stated warranty, I could be wrong.
I emailed three or four different people, plus used the chat feature back when it was working. I did eventually make contact with someone, she said I can send the slide cover plate back in to get coated, and that the rest of it looks like a patina from the oil in the finish drying up. They said to apply oil and retake pictures, which I did to no success. I have let it soak in oil and still no success. I have emailed her back three times and she has not got back to me. It has been a month or so by now. Ill have to check.

Yes it

It does look slick! I wonder how it compares in quality to others..

Cerakote is pretty tough stuff and long lasting.
I have some Nickel Boron parts that are easy to clean and have a natural lubricity..

I have some Titanium Nitride parts that get surface rust really fast if not soaked in oil. TiN is also a PVD finish if i am correct.

This copper PVD that is on this Lone Wolf gun is tricky to clean. It shows dirt really bad. Leaves black fingerprints. Have to really really wipe it down.

Yes, I have tried to oil the slide thick in oil, light in oil, take all the oil off, scrub the spots with cleaner, etc. I tried to let it soak in oil to soak up the potential "dry spots" like the guys from Lone Wolf mentioned and it made no difference at all.
I have seen that treatment on a few different guns but none from Lone Wolf. It is usually a good finish. I hope you are able to get it squared away.

I have done a lot of business with LoneWolf and I’ve found their customer service to be excellent once you have their product in hand. They will make it right for you. The only place I’ve had issues with their customer service is getting a realistic ETA on back-ordered or pre-ordered items, but that’s for a different thread. There is definitely something not right with your PVD coating. My wife’s G26 has a custom slide with the PVD coating. Color is copper. This was done in 2016. The gun now has 1750 rounds through it, and still looks excellent. I do clean it after every range trip. I use a little bit of hoppes super elite. Operative word being little. The grime comes right off, apply light oil (I use M-Pro 7) and put it away. I’ve attached some pictures for reference.

I got a G23 barrel PVD coated in Copper. I had it sitting on a table drying up because it was still wet when I first got it. It sat for about 2 weeks or so and it seemed dry to the touch. I didn't have a need to use it at that time so it stayed there in the open.
After a month its shade had changed a little. Like from golden to more of a copper look. To me this meant that it took up to a month or so to "cure". It hasn't changed since then. I heard of Cerakote needing to cure for some time. Maybe the PVD needs time too. I heard some stories about Cerakote slides wearing right away because it wasn't allowed to cure before exposing it to solvents. Maybe...

Lonewolf’s wheelhouse is the fact they offer a wide range of products and services.

Unfortunately, that wide spectrum of offerings comes at a price.

Everything they offer, whether a product or service, is average [at best].

If you want above average or exceptional, you need to look elsewhere.

And for finishing work, CCR is a great place to start.

Good to know! Will have to try out CCR in the future with other pieces.

Lone Wolf has been at it for a long time now.. they do offer some great stuff.. but alot of it is average quality.

I do personally shoot that signature series 19 better than my stock glock 19.. maybe its just the RMR. I really enjoy using an RMR, after getting used to it, I can shoot pretty good with it at the range.
