I know this has been beat to death...but I'm still wondering especially from a re-loading standpoint and thought I'd re-flog that horse.
I'm trying to come up with a load for a 442 in .38 Special and in my searching ran into the Marshall/Sanow Stopping Power stuff over on Handloads.com. I know this is older stuff...but what intrigues me about it is that it is based on or is supposed to be based on real world results.
I also read alot of Doc Roberts material over on AR15.com, value his opinion and as result decided on heavy for my CCW's, 9mm, .45acp and 10mm and now I'm adding .38 to the list.
Back in the day I carried a 4" .357 with a 125 gr. H.P. and it was considered the # 1 stopper, of course I never needed to try it out, but it was comforting at the time.
So I'm wondering which bullet weight do you guy's CCW and why? Favorite loads are encouraged.
10mm only
I use a 180 grain Gold Dot from Georgia Arms for CCW in the city, they have +P and 1150 fps stamped on the package. The load "feels" hotter then 1150 fps.
For the woods I'm using some Double Tap 200 grain XTP's or FMJ's and my latest creation a 200 grain D.T. WFNGC probably going about 1050 fps
This is in a 4.25" 1911.
I'm just about out of my "store bought" ammo and I have some 155 Gold Dot's and 155 and 180 XTP's sitting on the shelf gathering dust...that are beginning to say load me up.
I don't want to get into the factory verses reload for CCW debate, that's a whole different topic.
