LCP Max vs Glock 42

Always shot my Glock 43 well and it's one of my favorite pistols. I enjoy taking it to the range despite the small size. This spring, I picked up an LCPII in .380 and while I liked the size, I found it difficult to shoot well. Center mass at short distance was no problem, but nothing that could be considered a group.

Now have the LCP Max as a replacement for the LCPII. You would think the added grip and improved sights of the Max would assist in my accuracy. But nope, kind of all over the place. Shot the Max today along with a rental Glock 42 and my 43. I seemed to be equally good and accurate with the Glocks. The 42 is a dream to shoot compared to the Ruger.

Agree. I just don't understand all of the love for the LCP Max in forum and Youtube land. I have given mine three chances and I just can't shoot it well compared to my Glock 42. Accuracy drops off disproportionally greater as distance increases. The Max also begins to blister my trigger finger after a couple of magazines. The smaller package is nice, and it appears to be well designed and easy to carry, but the Max is not nice enough for me to offset the disadvantages in performance. My Max is sitting in the box, along with three magazines unopened in their blister packs, awaiting disposition as soon as it is convenient to dispose of it.

Bottom line. You get what you pay for.

IMO the G42 is easier to shoot than the LCP, but it is too large for my purposes. The G42 is slightly larger than my PM9.

I have no accuracy gripes with the LCP. Not a target pistol, but fine for its designed purpose. I only practice out to 15yards with it.

To each their own, but I rented a G42 and stopped there. Bought 3 LCPs and eyeing the Max.

Bang for buck the LCP2 is the most fun shooting gun I have..... Within 15 feet..... What it was designed for. 3 to 4 inch group rapid fire. The trigger was a blast! Range officer complained I should shoot 3 rounds at a time, but mag dumps were too much funbwith 380. Easy control. Fek him.

When you can't have a bigger gun it has good use. Or for the petite.

So much fun and for $240 bucks at the time a magnificent deal. Sometimes less money is more. It makes this a rare gun.

The LCP2 Max would be better as a 9mm. But in 380 I am thinking I would rather dress for the G26 or dust off my Kahr CM9.

OP. Seems like you may have bigger hands than me?

I picked up an LCP Max because I need a small auto for pocket carry when even my beloved j frames are too big. I don’t shoot the Max as well as I shoot my Airweights, but it is acceptable for its purpose.

I’ve owned a G42 as well: it was a pleasure to shoot and I was as accurate with it as I am with my other Glocks.

I certainly didn’t mean to fault the Max. It serves its intended purpose (for me) quite admirably. It seems to shoot somewhat low for me, regardless of load, but my groups are sound. Anyone know if I can get a shorter front sight for it?

It’s probably only a big deal to a few people but to me, I like the ability to easily detail strip the G42.

The LCP is a piece of junk IMO. Couldn't sell mine fast enough. The Glock is on another level. I can't draw an auto out of the pockets of my pants and if I strap on a belt gun I would opt for something that holds 10+1 of 9mm. For pocket guns might as well get a J Frame and take some pride in owning something you can pass down to your grandkids.

Once again I'll say how I love my LCP Max's. Most days I'll carry both of them (pocket and IWB) with 2 12 round mags in my hip pocket. Terrific to shoot but I also enjoy shooting my LCP II's equally. There are days like today where I'm carrying both of my Sig 365's ( XL AIWB and reg in my pocket with a 12 round mag). Options are great. Shoot what you have and love to shoot what you have or sell it and find another option.

Do I love my 9mm's more? Sure! But I don't always feel the need or desire to carry them. Do I carry my Glocks anymore...nope. I sold my M&P Shields and went 365...options are great! YMMV

I picked up an LCP Gen 2 for pocket carry back in 2013. I added the Lasermax to the trigger guard and carry it in a Mika holster. They're hot little pistols and aren't meant for the range or shooting at 25 yards. They are defensive pistols for close in. The 42 is too big for my desire. For many years, my pocket carry was a Beretta .25 950BS. When I came across the LCP, I preferred fewer rounds of a potentially more capable caliber and it already fit the holster I was used to in my pocket. The Hogue grip was a needed add-on. I've been curious about the Max but I think I prefer the trigger pull in the LCP 2nd gen.

From what I’ve read, the LCP doesn’t have a firing pin block. I find that very strange. Flocks are boring, bigger and more expensive, but I trust them as far as safety and reliability goes.

The 365 .380 makes no sense to me. For 9mm? Sure. I carry an LCP in my pocket and feel good about that choice for where I live. I remain tempted by the Max. I have zero interest in the 365 or the G42 even though I'm a Glock fan.
