I have a visual disorder that makes finding the right sights a little more difficult. I know prefer orange front ring and probably one dot on the rear sight in a figure 8 configuration. I know that I prefer sights where the outer edges angle in. I only have experience with square notches and wondering if a U would be more helpful for finding center alignment.

While I'm not sure about these, they are certainly finalists in my sight quest. Obviously the Ameriglos are almost half the price of the Warrens, but price isn't the issue but the Warrens lack the orange front outlines. Not a deal killer though. Are there advantages to either of the Warren's over each other or the Ameriglos?

Thanks in advance for your input.

I have Ameriglo Agents U-notch sights on my G26, Vertically, I see more of the front sight, which I like. These particular sights also have a wider notch and narrower front sight, so the sight picture has more space on either side of the front sight. That works best for me.

The U shaped notch in and of itself is only advantageous if you find it better for your eyes. Same applies to a square notch. I’ve run many different sets with each and it doesn’t matter a bit to me. Ameriglos are excellent sights. I have I-dots on several of my Glocks, though I replace the front with a .125 wide with the lime/yellow.

Summary: If your eyes like one or the other better use that one. There’s no inherent advantage towards either style. If you want the Warren rear you can always purchase the front you want from another company (Say, Ameriglo or Trijicon) separately.

I do not think the purported advantage is the U notch, but the notch's width in relation to the width of the front sight.

Well if it's punching paper I guess the U notch is easier to see. But if trying to off a bad guy at sneezing distance I don't think it matters. I think I have the "U" stuff on my Sig 229 in .357 Sig. My Glocks have square notch sights.

I have never tried them, but I can't imagine how they could help. You are supposed to be looking at the top edges, not the bottom of the notch. If anything the notch makes it harder to estimate whether you have equal airspace on both sides of the front sight.

Don't know whether they help, but they're what comes with Trijicon HDs and is what I've put on all my Glocks since I first tried them years ago.
After I posted the thread I went to the range today and got to see some iDots. For the 43x these are really tiny and I have now realized that the narrow slide requires a scaled down version of some sights. Trijicon HD's are also on the radar, pricey as they are.

While signing up for the range space they had a number or rental guns in the cabinet, all with different sights. I did get to see a U notch, a standard 3 dot tritium and a Truglo TFO I think. While I liked the U-notch and while I typically am not drawn to three dot configurations, I liked the Truglos and thing perhaps the TFX pros might be worth investigating. I know that Optics Planet has a good return policy and I'd be able to evaluate them without installing and am now thinking in that direction.

Anyone have a comparison of the Truglo TFX Pros vs the HiViz H3's?
