I tried AIWB for a month....

...... and this is not working for me. I don't have the body structure. On paper, and in videos, all the cool-jet high speed guys make this look like the greatest carry position in the world. I couldn't make it work.

I switched between a 2" J-frame in a WTP holster and a S&W Shield in a Comp-tac holster. Just when I thought I had my belt tension just right, had the holster clips adjusted just right, the next time I carried it felt unnatural and simply "off".

If someone has any ideas, I'm open to them. I am short, so I don't all the room in the world "down there."

I cant either & not willing to keep buying new gear to make it work. I am just fine at 3:00. I feel it covers more bases in my day to day carry than AIWB.

When I first start carrying AIWB I tried a few different Kydex rigs and just couldn't get comfortable. I went to a minimalist Kusiak leather IWB tuckable holster and once I got the ride height right it has worked for years. I did change the clip to a J-hook. I tried a Kusiak with the claw and it didn't work, so I went back to the original Kusiak. I have a good mission belts click belt that works well for keeping my pants up and keeping the cr920 from moving around. It works for me - walking around, sitting and driving either the truck, the vette or riding the bikes.

Edit to add: I originally carried in the Kusiak at 4-4:30 so I was used to the holster. I just slid it around and asjusted the ride height and canr a bit.

I'm too often in a weird position to carry appendix regularly . I mean if I was just walking around all day, driving, or taking the wife out to dinner or standing in front of a mirror, drawing my gun, or looking at myself or whatever , lol, sure. But I'm a working man. I'm squatting, bending, turning, lifting, carrying, hauling, climbing, driving, sitting...down on one knee, or both. Just too active to carry my gun in my belly. Try cutting firewood or laying a stone floor or mechanicking with that set up in your way all day. It's a city boy easy life thing I reckon, with comfortable loafers and slacks I suppose. Lol. (Joking).
Just not for me and my lifestyle. I'm strong side or cross draw, depending.
*Not a dig on anyone for their carry style. Whatever works for you, do it. *

Whew........ it's not just me.

What is the deal with appendix carry? FBI research says 3 o'clock OWB is the way to go. I personally do 4-5 IWB (it also tucks in nicely there when in a car in the space that can fit right where the seat belt goes).

Tactically, if caught off guard I can feign going for my wallet in my right rear pocket and wa-la. Once one pulls their shirt up I would think the other guy is going to catch on before the draw is complete. I guess that's just me.

FBI research ? Or was that for agents who open carry with a sports coat /jacket as a cover garment who don’t worry about “printing” or other “he has a gun” factors.
One reason why LE likes the “fbi cant on the strong side is the gun is further away from the threat . , making it harder for them to grab. As opposed to drawing the gun on an armed individual where a gun grab isn’t likely. I have carried with both styles. I draw appendix faster but it’s easier for the threat to interrupt that draw than the strong side 3 -5 o’clock.
Both can be fast however. Tom Cruise does a fast strong side draw in Colatteral.
I’m not that fast especially in a IWB holster. I need a IWB or even better concealment in my environment.
Appendix IWB is faster and can be drawn while seated without “announcing “ I am drawing a gun .

I went back to my 3:30 to 4:00-ish position. So much less drama. I can't draw from AIWB while sitting anyway, 4:00 is more feasible. I'm thinking of putting a "car gun" into service so that would solve that issue regardless.

I have a G26 that I plan to attach a light to. So I am looking for a holster that accodates that. Comp-tac doesn't make one, WTP does, but I like the option of split clips on the Comp-tac. We shall see how that goes...

Thanks for the replies thus far.

TLR-6 will probably be your best option for a light. It's only 100 lumens but for ccw use should be sufficient. I bought one for my 43 and one came with a 26 I bought. Good luck.

Yessiree. My best friend prefers IWB. 4 O’clock. Feels like it’s more within his “bodily orbit” and more secure. And less likely to be spotted. He’s been CCW for less than a year.

I’ve been carrying since 2009. I tried IWB a couple of times. Naw. Even if it worked, I still prefer an OWB, pulled in tight, at 3 O’clock. It just seems “right.”

And I tend to wear longer/looser upper body garments than does he. Not specifically for CCW. Just naturally. You might spot it. With X-ray Vision.

i carry a Sig365 AIWB, about 2 years now. i have a S&W 637 J, Bodyguard380, ShieldPlus, and a few others.. for me, the Shield and anything smaller, works best for me with the holsters i have. i am pretty active, working in the Shop and Garage, woodworking, iron work, i don't sit around much. though when driving i don't have any trouble drawing, practice, like anything else.
i used to carry back in the 4-5 iwb area, just to hard on mt shoulders...

I have trouble with AIWB too. It just doesn’t jive with my body type. OWB at 3:00 is my preferred carry.

Depends which AIWB rig you're using. Some work for me, others do not, unless they have the "claw" mount which keeps it against the body, much better than those w/out. I run the LAS concealment Ronin and Phlster Enigma with the 43x. Also have a foam spacer that velcro's on the bottom back section of the holster, pushing it out so the grip sits much closer to the body.

Having a prosthetic where the socket is literally up to my hip. The 2-3 o'clock position does not work, be it IWB, or OWB. Unless it's on a med or full drop leg setup. Making concealed carry, not practical.

I've been using a Raven Vanguard VG2 minimalist for at least a decade w/ G19/23 or G26/27.

It's situated more to the midline and I usually forget about it.

I changed the location after carrying 3 o'clock and it was killing my back! Also did some time with Thunderwear in a financial institution - Talk about comfortable... then tried AIWB and it just clicked!

Drawing while driving is still something I'm practicing... and 3'oclock isn't all that fast either.

I'll get it figured out!!!

Appendix full time here. Best accountability, fast draw, best concealment of a g19 or g45 even. Even while driving, and sitting down. Only hard thing is reaching shoes, you can but it sucks. I can draw from sitting just fine too

get the right holster, Tenicor Certum3 is my fav, but, g-code incog or g-code phenom stealth are all great for it. also needs a slim clip, not those cheap fat ones

get a belt with minimal buckle too. Or off set buckle 11:00. Inside a blue alpha minimalist belt personally.

don’t be fat, helps a TON. I’m not small, 6’2(maybe 3?) 230lbs, a small pudge but I’m working on it and it carries no problem.

do it long enough and you get used to it.

I’ll never go back to 3:00 IWB. Only time I carry 3:00 is when it’s OWB (jacket concealed or open with a level2 on battle belt setup)

I suggest to those wanting to, or wanting more comfort going AIWB. Buy the nexbelt (or reasonable facsimile) ratcheting style and wear it so the buckle is at the 11, or 2 o'clock position. Doing so, limits that massive pooching stomach you get with buckle along the gig line.

With that said whatever works best for you, you're able to access if a threat arises.

8:30 or 9:30 IWB for me....exactly 9:00 IWB is right on my hip-bone.

Untucked Hawaiian shirts 365 days a year for the past many decades.

15-20 years ago someone submitted an Urban Dictionary entry that my last name refers to Hawaiian shirts.

So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Cubans wear the Guayabera shirt and several fishing companies make similar shirts.
