I had a chance to play with one extensively (my son's ) and I'm pondering getting my own in some wild color scheme. I'm wondering if others have racked up some experience with the DVG-1. The discussion might help others pondering a low-cost concealable pistol.

Here is my experience

They are complete, unadulterated garbage. Get a KelTec, Taurus, hell, get a HiPoint before you spend money on that garbage. SCCY is a cheaper knock off of an already cheap pistol. Look anywhere on the internet and discover that most have failures and even not considering that, the triggers are terrible, the materials are cheap and junky. Not a good pistol in any way.

Almost the first half of that write up was all the work the guy did to it before even firing it.

That should pretty much tell you all you need to know.

Oh heck I purchased a Lee Loadmaster press . Heard it was a problem child but sometimes I like a challenge.
If you aren't going to bet your life on it. Maybe a range toy? I say go for it.

I think it all depends what the pistol's role will be.
I did a quick search and many had positive things to say about the brand. Reliability was actually used to describe multiple pistols.
While some might be garbage, they all can't be garbage?
Buy it as a range gun?

Here's MY experience with them.
They are pure unadulterated junk. I spent several years of my Marine Corps career working on small arms. They spent a lot of time and money training me in diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of small arms pursuant to my secondary MOS.
My neighbor bought a SCCY DVG. He brought it to me when it had failure to chamber a round issues from day one. Adjusted mag feed lip profile, problem solved. 2 weeks later, it had FTE problems- every round. Called SCCY- back it went for repair. 3 months later it came back. Same problem continues. SCCY won't tell my neighbor what repairs were done. Oh yeah- his sight fell off one day during shooting. SHEESH!
His pistol had 3 returns to SCCY in 8 months, and he had possession of it 6 weeks in that 8 months.
You do what you want, but SCCY is even worse than Taurus and that says a lot. Got a low budget? Buy a Hi Point. It ain't pretty or sleek but it is reliable and consistent.

My son called SCCY about his magazine (nose-dive FTF) and recoil spring problem (unscrewing) and they immediately sent him new stuff.
He has a little over 200 rounds through it so far and is really liking it. His only prior experience is with a G19, and he bought the DVG-1 to have something easier to conceal.
The pistol is well built imo, and not difficult to troubleshoot. But I suppose for a noob some issues could seem daunting. Fortunately most folks don't have problems.

Actually, most folks DO have problems with them. That, and the internet is filled with reports that they are a 7 yard firearm at best. No matter how you choose to describe your son's pistol, the shooting world looks at the SCCY pistols as on the same level as the Jennings/ Bryco/ RG handguns of the 70's and 80's- junk.
Or, to use the favorite buzzwords of the time: " Saturday Night Specials".
Your son has a G19 and thinks a SCCY is going to be a viable carry weapon? PLEASE ask him to reevaluate his decision. One will work under almost any conditions and deliver high-level combat grade accuracy, and the other will fail. Period.

Well, I've got some experience with one. I had one of the ones without the safety, and a red dot sight. I got it because (1) it had a red dot, and (2) it was cheap (used).

I will say it worked. Fairly well actually. I got to try out a red dot sight pretty cheap just to see if I liked it. I really don't recall the gun ever actually malfunctioning, but I'd rate it as probably the worst gun I've ever owned. There was nothing in particular that was "wrong" with it, it just felt cheap...because it was actually I suppose. The only specific "problem" I remember was a failure to lock the slide back after the last round, and that was traced down to being one particular magazine, and I was able to fix that myself. I forget now what I actually did to fix it though. I only put a couple hundred rounds through it, mostly FMJ but a few HP of one kind or the other. It functioned with them all. I was able to stay on the target at 5-7 yards in spite of the trigger which was as everyone else said, long and heavy. Pretty stiff recoil, but it's a small, light gun. I suppose that's to be expected. The red dot, worked just fine. That I was impressed enough with to buy a nicer gun later with a dot sight. I later traded it back in on some other gun at the same shop where I'd purchased it. Got more for it than I expected really.

Would I recomend one? Only if you wanted one for grins and giggles like I did. I never considered it as a carry gun. I suppose if someone had to have the least expensive gun they could find, one would do the job, but don't let anyone fool you and tell you it's "Just as good as...."

I went to OPs blog spot and there it was, his review of the SCCY. Someone is just trying to drum up traffic. Seems there are better ways than acting like a jerk, but he did get me to look, once. As an aside, in his review he refers to KelTec and Diamondback as “gold standard “ of carry pistols. That pretty much tells me all I need to know about this guy.

My lone experience with one was pure fail. I actually think they look like a nice gun..as far as aesthetics go..so I wanted to like it..also liked when they came out their size..So a friend that had bought 2 brought them NIB never shot not even cleaned to the range...plan was he bought them 1 for him 1 for wife....wife immediately hated it didnt fit her hands well.. so when i hear that I volunteered to take it off his hands if i liked it.. took it to the range and we opened the box..read the manual quick cleaned them and proceeded to shoot..His shot..kinda....mine couldnt get through a mag without choking..after about 65 or 70 rounds each I just gave up we put mine away(after recleaning/reassembly just to be sure...) we shot the rest of the 2nd box through his near the end he had a few issues also with slide and some feeding...we went back he said while laughing ..so I assume you didnt want to buy it...I was like..nah...I have never in my life had a gun that needed customer service im not going to get one that will and I KNOW it will lol.

We were cleaning them again and upon inspection his looked like th was trying to eat its slide you could see some damage at the rear part of it and it was doing something ive never seen it was almost over extending and getting hung up on some part of the rails or rear of frame..dont know he sent his wifes/one he was going to sell to me asked for a refund and his he ended up getting back i think he still has it. Not sure though as a few years back he moved to NC from PA..

I have no dog in this fight. Everyone can buy and/or carry whatever they would like. I do think it is important to note, though, that the SCCY DVG series is a different design than the CPX series. The CPX series pistols are hammer-fired and double action only while the DVG-1 is a striker fired pistol. I think most people here primarily have experience with the CPX series since the DVG-1 is still relatively new. Given the poor track record of the CPX series, tho, I personally wouldn't have much faith in the DVG-1 and can certainly understand others feeling the same way. Personally, I'd choose my Ruger EC9s over any SCCY if I was looking only at pistols in that price range.

I like nice, at least reliable and utilitarian firearms for the most part. A few high end and a few low end.

I acquire the range of firearms, in large part so I can talk about them to friends and students from a position of experience.

A friend worked for SCCY for a bit, and another had them as a sponsor. A LGS had some on sale, so I got 2. Went through them, shot them...they are junk as @bac1023 says. I don't always agree with him on the subject of mid grade to budget firearms, but he is correct based on what I saw.

Currently evaluating 5 firearms, budget knock offs of popular name brands. One is impressive, one is junk.
