I'm a striker-fire fanboy! Rented one of these and just had to add it to my meager collection. H&K's first striker-fire autoloader I believe!

What you have (at least in the picture) is a P30SK V3 DA/SA hammer fired semi-automatic pistol.

Huh? :headscratch:

Even if that were striker fired (which it isn't), it's far from their first. HK has been building them for decades.

You actually rented and bought that and still think it's a striker?

:faint:

Not in my opinion either. At least not best as a subcompact for IWB concealed carry. And not the best for me because of the DA/SA trigger mode. For my preferences striker-fired would actually be better, and so would the optional LEM trigger.

But as far as it being a subcompact that's a hard thing for HK to do because they've always made theirguns on the "chunky" side. I hate to rain on the OP's new gun parade but this may have been an impulse buy and only time will tell if it's truly the "best" gun for the end user.

Here's what I mean about HK's being "Chunky". and note that the Glock has a longer barrel but a shorter overall length. Compare the HK to the Glock:

Glock 26
Weight unloaded: 21.7 ounces
Length: 6.41 in.
Height: 4.17 in.
Width: 1.18 in.
barrel length 3.42
Magazine capacity: 10

HK P30SK
Weight unloaded: 24 oz.
Length: 6.42 in.
Height: 4.57 in.
Width: 1.37 in.
Barrel length: 3.27 in.
Magazine capacity: 10.

The thickness of the P30SK over a Glock 26 is primarily because of the ambi slide stop levers and with a holster that part is above the belt at least on the kydex holster for my P30SK so it does not make any difference in IWB carry comfort. If I want to carry a thin pistol for maximum comfort it would not be a Glock 26/19 anyhow but a single stack like my Walther PPS.

Ah, I understand. I had the V3 and still have the V1 LEM. The V1 LEM was much smoother of course. I didn't mind the V3 at all and figured it would smooth out a bit as it broke in, but got a deal on a new Sig P320c I couldn't pass up. I figure the V1 is a keeper though. Very nice trigger on that one. Never had a USP so I can't compare.

It seems to me like the newer HK's are getting cheaper and cheaper.

The USP line and, to a lesser degree, the P2000 were high quality. The P30 was a notch below the P2000, in my opinion.

The VP series really dropped off. I'm not saying it's a poor quality gun, but it's a far cry from a USP, that's for sure. It's more inline with the PPQ and some others in terms of quality. Nothing to write home about.

To tell you the truth Brian I'm pretty sure they finally realized they were losing a crap load of sales because of what they were charging. Not sure how but HK has had some serious financial difficulties for several years.

I just read the other day that HK fired their CEO, hopefully they don't go the way of Sig and really start cutting corners. HK has never really suffered the embarrassment of putting out so many dogs like Sig has, not even close. I still say that HK, across the board, builds quality firearms the likes you don't see by very many companies these days.

Best - is all about personal preference.
And for me, it comes down to what I shoot the best - LOL!
Have a Hk P2000SK 40 and a Hk P30SK (both Light LEM).
Even OEM 357 Sig barrel and mags for P2000SK.
Head to Head, I shoot the older P2000SK (357/40) noticeably better than the P30SK.
Head to Head, I shoot the P2000SK 40/180 noticeably better than with 357/125.
The P30SK feels noticeably better in the hand.
But paper doesn't lie.

So guess what's riding on my belt today?

At least you rented your hammer fired P30SK and knew that you liked it before you bought it. I researched and read multiple views and bought one from an online gun shop (my first online gun purchase). Really wish I had bought another Glock. Was really wanting to like the SA/DA trigger for "peace of mind" since I appendix IWB carry, unfortunately I don't. Enjoy your new HK. Thanks for sharing. Nice pic too.

Pic looks like something professional copied off the net.
Have a G27 myself that I no longer carry.
Prefer the "peace of mind" of thumbing the hammer down as I holster the gun.
HK LEM is the same light pull every time alternative to striker-DA/SA.
LEM is not for everyone, so try before you buy.
All my Hks (sans the SP5K) are Light LEM.

The Walther PPQ M2 is similar, very subtle finger grooves. Very comfortable fit.
