Another impulse buy. I ordered a new HK P8A1 pistol last week, and picked it up from my FFL today.
The P8A1 is the German government/military version of the USP. This is the pistol issued to the Bundeswehr. I would presume it's also used by any German government or police agencies that use the 9mm USP pistol.
A few differences from the commercial USP pistol...
There might be some other differences. I don't have another 9mm USP to compare it to, so I'm just going by the info I've been able to find online.
From what I understand, very limited numbers are imported into the country each year. I basically got it just to have something a little different.

A few differences from the commercial USP pistol...
- It's marked P8A1, not USP.
- The barrel rifling is traditional lands and grooves instead of the polygonal rifling of the USP.
- The safety selector switch functions the opposite of the USP - fire is in the up position, safe is in the down position. The F and S are on the frame, not on the switch.
- It has three dot sights made with luminescent paint, not tritium. They glow, but need to be charged with a light.
- Comes with translucent 15rd plastic magazines.
- It has a beefier slide than the USP. Reinforced metal at stress points.
- These are not made for the American market. HK USA does not import them, they come in by third party importers.
