Glock 42 underrated?

I checked out the 42 today. I want something that is small, has the same MoA as my other guns, and it small, but shootable. The 42 seems to fit the bill. I was surprised exactly how much smaller it was than the 43, in my opinion. I think a 42 might be in my future. How does everyone else like their's?

I have one and carry it quite a bit while walking/jogging. It’s a great shooter with almost no recoil.
I’m sure several will say “it’s only a 380”, but it’s a nice little gun. Go for it!
It's only a .380.

I wouldn't mind the 42, but whenever possible I prefer 9mm or .38. But when going with the .380 it is something real small and light, which for me is the Ruger LCP.

Still, I can see people wanting a better .380, which is the Glock 42:)

I had one and liked it. However, I got rid of it because I couldn't think of a reason I'd carry it in place of my LC9s. They are the same size, within a few ounces of each other and the LC9s holds one additional round. Plus 9mm is more readily available, wider variety and less expensive.

Just to keep it real, the LC9s is longer, taller, wider and heavier than the 42. Not a huge amount, that's true, but easily enough to tell the difference immediately in the hand or the pocket.

Ruger EC9s.
The difference is minute compared to the advantages of one extra round in a better over-all caliber in a platform that allows stock options such as manual safety/no manual safety and choice of base plates. I liked the G42 but in the end I just couldn't see carrying it when I had the option of the LC9s.

The G42 is arguably the best 380ACP pistol ever made.

However, for my purposes it is too large for easy pocket carry. I use the Ruger LCP II for that, and a G33 otherwise when not trying pocket carry. The G42 just does not fit my needs.

I get that the 42 is larger than the P3AT and the LCP, but I don't understand the complaints about it being large for pocket carry. It's about the same size as a P938 (and significantly lighter), and nobody complains about pocket carrying that. The extra size and weight over the micro .380s makes it a much better shooter.

I carry my 26 most of the time, but I do carry my 42 occasionally (IWB, not pocket), more in the summer. My only complaint is the 6 round capacity. I have Taran Tactical +1 and +2 mags on order which I hope will resolve that complaint.

Had one, liked it for sure but not a yuge 380 fan. I've had the LCPII didn't care for it really, didn't seem much different than the first LCP. But of the two, the G42 is the better gun. I had a CW380 too, not bad but the G42 is better. I've debated getting another to have a small(er) pocket gun, I currently pack my G27 Gen4 mostly in my pocket.

Sold my LCP as soon as I held/shot the G42. I'm still in love. Flawless and accurate!
I pocked carry mine in a Boraii Eagle holster. I don't worry about the .380 haters.
A store owner shot two 9mm robbers a few days ago (read the story someplace) and killed one of them and the other is in ICU. He used his LCP .380.

I like the Original LCP better than the LCPII but I'm not a fan of the 380 except with the underwood plus +P ammo.

The picture of the G42 and the Boraii Eagle holster makes me think you must have pretty big pockets to carry that gun and holster.

What brand of pants do you wear? I wear Wrangler cargo pants and have tried ata gun store putting a G42 in the pocket without a holster and it was pretty tight for someone with big hands to get the gun out of the pocket.

I like mine. I carry it in a Klipit under a suit coat, or when in lightweight summer clothes, if I can keep my shirt un-tucked. Maybe I need to get a couple of those "Untuckit" shirts or something.

But, IMO, it is not a pocket gun. For me that's a late production, LCP (not the LCP II) or a P32. They are both homely little things, but out to about 7 yards, its appears that I can put the little slugs where they would need to go, and they ride in a pocket far better than the micro-Glock.

I'm probably in the minority here, but even with a good pocket holster, and paying attention to your gun handling, a Glock in the pocket seems like a pretty good way to get yourself cock-Glocked.

Not with this holster!

Greatest little .380 out there, IMHO! Size, Recoil(lack there-of!), accuracy, ease of use and ease of maintenance(It is a Glock!). In a DeSantis Nemesis holster, it vanishes in the pocket. And, while it is a .380, there are decent loads out there that stand the .380 up as a workable self defense pistol within it's range. It won't punch holes in brick walls, but as an anti-personnel round, w/ a hot load, it works fair. Only complaint is capacity, and that is easily fixable. ETS 7rd magazine w, a Pearce +1 base plate for Glock on it. ETS uses the Glock interface lock on it's Glock mags, so Glock accessories fit right on, NP. That allows for a real 7rds in the mag w/o the Slide battery bar drag problem, and one in the pipe gives you 8 quick!
The 42 is a great little pistol, bar none. And it's just so cute, too, due to it's size...lol!

I love my 42 but only carry it in a sweatshirt or jacket pocket. Wearing my 911 Defender-Flex jeans, put my 42 in an Alabama pocket holster in my front pocket and the grip is just a 1/2 inch below the top of my pocket. For me it is too tight to withdraw from my front pocket quickly and safely. The 42 disappears when carried IWB.

I load mine with Underwood 380 ACP +P 90 Grain JHP:

The problem with the 380 is that it doesn't benefit from the same projectile technology that the 9mm has because with a 90 grain bullet at 900 fps if it makes the bullet expand, the expansion limits penetration.

That's why the best ammo for the 380 has always been FMJ's. But with the Underwood Plus+P 90 grin XTP at 1200 fps, the Bullet will expand to almost twice the diameter while penetrating as well as an FMJ and makes the 380 a legitimate defensive round.

Have two 42's. Keep one in my truck and one in the van all the time. The reason is if i want to carry i will have one for my pocket. Being 71 i also like the fact that i can shoot 200 rounds just fine (50 from my 43 and my hand started to hurt). Got rid of the 43. Keep a couple of 26.5's in the house.

Some of y'all must be wearing skinny jeans! :exercise: I can carry my G42 in my front pants pocket in either a DeSantis Fly pocket holster w/flap or my kydex pocket holster which I modified to use the flap of the previous holster. I can draw easily and I am wearing Wrangler jeans. The 42 is my backup to what ever primary I am carrying (43, 26/27, 19, or Shield).

I can carry all of the above except the 19 in my front pockets and the pants fit fine without anything IWB....

Y'all need looser pants!
