I have lots of experience with both. They are both good competition platforms. With aftermarket trigger/striker assemblies, neither will hold you back. Some prefer the Glock (including me), and some prefer the M&P.

Better ergos, better trigger and more accurate by a good bit.

In my experience with both, I agree with all but the last part. I couldn't get my Pro to shoot my IDPA load very well. I sold it. I've heard people say the Pro's don't shoot the 147 gr bullets ( I think it was the 147 gr, can't remember). Wish I would have tried/experimented with more loads. I've been wanting to give the Pro another try but I'm invested in the 34(mags, holster, mag holder), so I just haven't wanted to spend the extra $$.

I say, if you're wanting the Pro more, go with that. If you end up not liking it, you could just sell it. You might lose a little $$ but at least you'll know you gave it a try.

I would like to see that "difference in accuracy" between G34 and M&P Pro because I sure haven't observed that. Are you talking about benchrest accuracy, or something else? My experience is that both guns are very accurate--more than sufficient for any USPSA or IDPA shooting.

My buddy did have a problem with his M&P Pro unlocking early during the firing cycle, causing vertical stringing with some loads. After two trips to S&W, the gun is good to go and winning him lots of ribbons at USPSA matches.

I own a new G34 and shot it alongside my buddy's MP Pro. I'm a Glock fan, and I like the simplicity of maintaining and tinkering with Glocks, but a head to head comparison really puts the MP ahead of the Glock in many areas.

The Smith has a very high quality feel, with attention to detail completely absent in any Glock. The stock sights are better, the ergos are better, the slide is nicely machined, and the polymer even looks and feels more substantial, better textured. The overall impression is of a gun that should cost much more than the Glock.

I shot the MP slightly better, and of course, it had no problem slinging empty shells far and right unlike my Gen 4 glock.

Not benchrest. I don't think I've ever benched any of my poly guns. In shooting in IDPA matches and shooting in a slow controlled pace, I could not get as good accuracy with my Pro as I could with my 34. Like I said, it was with my IDPA load or mostly with that load, I did shoot some others but not much. I had a couple of thousand rounds loaded so I didn't really want to spend the time/effort to find one that worked with the Pro.

At the time I had a couple of shooting buddies that were having the same results as I was. So, between that and having everything needed for the 34, and it was working for me, I decided to sell the Pro.

However, if someone like Glock2740, who owns some accurate guns, says that his Pro is a shooter, I would take all this with a grain of salt. What shoots good with one load for one shooter, may not for another shooter with his preferable load.

Buy which one you like best.

I prefer the G34 and really like Glocks. Though, it took me buying and selling 3-4 before I finally came around. It was hard for me to make the transition from a good 1911 trigger to the Glock trigger.

Yeah, that Glock trigger is not for everybody.

I can put up some pretty good groups with my G34, but if you say the M&P Pro 9 is more accurate, I'll just have to hope I get a chance to shoot one.

Here's a group that my little old G34 put up at seven yards.

I do believe that this hits on the crux of the problem. The Glock trigger requires some time to master. I do prefer the triggers on 1911s.

Off a bench and sandbag you could come close to that with the M&P Pro9 at 25 yards. Like I said guys, I'm a huge Glock fan. Look at my signature line for Christ sakes... But the Pro9 smokes ALL of my Glocks and smokes my buddy's G34. Both on and off the bench. At least that is my and my buddy's, as well as several of our shootings buddy's opinions too . I'm just telling you what I have seen firsthand, shooting both in my hands and watching several others shoot them side by side as well. YMMV. :dunno:

I have both and have put thousands of rounds through both. The M&P fits my hands better and is the one I have taken to training schools. I like the M&P Pro well enough to buy a second one. I got lucky with both M&Ps on accuracy and have no complaints with how they perform on longer range shots.

They are both fine pistols, I would recommend shooting both and determine if one works better than the other for you.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I like the ergonomics of the M&P better than the glock also. And the "backstraps" are WAY better on the M&P. Accuracy though? I'd say its most likely too close to call.
Here's my next question, where can I find some freakin m&p9 17 round mags?!?!?! Or even CA compliant 10's? I have a match coming up I'd like to use the M&P in, but I can't find the mags I need ANYWHERE.
