You could just keep the 35 and purchase a 9mm conversion bbl. Some say the extractor needs changed to, but a couple of people I know that have done it with G22s, didn't bother with the extractor and it worked perfectly well.
 
I too have had my 3rd re-cert and while I don't recall the overall service life being discussed, it more surrounded how often to replace specific parts.

Frankly, if the gun lasts 40k before a major failure, I couldn't complain too much. That's 40 full cases of ammo and if I can afford to put thar much through the same gun, I can probably swing another one at the end.

That said, I would expect that with regular maintenance, the service life is longer - in fact, I don't think you can actually wear out a bbl, the frame itself would probably be the determining factor.
