Hey guys, I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on the .22 conversion for the Glock 19? I was thinking about picking one up to save some money on ammo and allow myself to train more without breaking the bank. My thought is that dry fire drills are good to help train muscle memory and to reduce the recoil anticipation so doing the same thing with a .22 would be even better. Outside in a safe location of course. I know training with what you’d normally shoot is still the best but im curious as to people’s thoughts on training with the .22. I carry a 19 so the gun would be the same, just cheaper to shoot and less recoil which may train me to not anticipate the shot as much? Whats your thoughts? Is the conversion kit a good idea? Reliable? Waste of time?

Not a bad idea and you can have more fun at the range.

I have a Advantage Arms 22 LR conversion for my Gen 4 23, close to 5000 rds fired.

I've tried several different types of ammo and found that it functions best with better grade ammo, that being said I've come to the point of using Remington "Golden Bullets" which is one of the ammo's AA recommends.

I've also found the regardless of ammo, you will still get some feeding issues, mainly failure to extract which causes the next round feeding from the mag not to chamber due the last round fired casing still in the chamber, this happens less with better ammo but still the conversion is about 98% at best.

with the Rem Gold and better grade ammo, that means dropping the mag, clearing the double feed and cycling the slide a couple times to clear the chamber, with the cheaper ammo, the casing may get stuck in the chamber requiring a "bump" with a cleaning rod to get the casing out.

all in all I like mine, I use it for cheap practice at an indoor range when its too cold to go to my gun club, and being a reloader, it means not chasing brass.

you can usually find bulk Rem Gold 1400 rnd buckets on sale around the holidays, about $.06 a round.

I have the Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kit for my Polymer 80 (Glock 19/Gen 3) clone.
It is a hoot to shoot but ammo picky. I shoot Steel Challenge matches with it. Best/most consistent ammo I found for my set up is the Federal 788BF ie Champion 745.
Can’t go wrong - enjoy it!!!!

I have had my 17/22, AA, conversion for many years, paid 200 for it , was a long time ago. have sent it back to the factory one time. They went through it replaced the Return spring, extractor, and gave me a new magazine. Returned it to me free of charge. I am also waiting for one to fit the G-43x.
I also want a Conversion for the Armscor 22TCMR. It is fun to shoot but expensive.

Another happy owner of the AA LE for my G23.3

Remington Golden Bullets have proven quite dependable for the purpose I use them for.

Great way to work on trigger control, shoot hundreds of rounds (cheaply) and the very BEST way to teach new shooters.

Thanks for all the feedback!!! That was a big help. I ended up buying a used one from a local It looks brand new and he said he only put 50 rounds through. I found that it’s really difficult to get the slide off though. It’s like you have to pull it back a specific amount before the slide lock will release. Anyone else have trouble getting the conversion slide off the frame?

push the muzzle end of the barrel against something solid as draw the slide back and pull down on the slide lock lever, then move the slide forward as you would with the stock slide.

the only problem I've had was with a version1 polymer 80 frame..to remove the slide all you had to do was pull the trigger and the slide would just pull right off the front of the frame..no such issues on the version 2 frames with the metal rear rails

The AA conversion is very reliable wit Golden Bullet's and CCI Mini-Mags in my G21. I used it a lot for training. The down side is lack of recoil and lightness of the slide which makes for a tendency to shoot high from the draw. The TX22 is also a good trainer for the Glock.
