Anyone have experience with the Glock 20 and the XDM 10mm? Any preference for one over the other? I might be looking to get another full size 10mm, and these would be my top two choices. One thing I notice about the Glock is that the grip is pretty enormous.

I have never tried the XDM, but my EDC is a Glock 20 gen 4.

Yes, the grip is large, but I still installed the small beavertail backstrap, and really like the way it fits my hand.

This may be nothing but a baseless perception, but I feel like the large grip helps by dispersing the recoil over more surface area.

If untrue, then its still a good line of BS.:dunno:

I'm curious about the XDM too, manhandled it several times, the reviews are positive, but the trigger is NOT better than a Glock's on any model I've picked up. Not a deal breaker, it's not meant to be a 1911. The plastic rails are a little concerning but haven't heard any bad reviews because of them.

I like both XD's and Glocks but I saw this thread in XDtalk a few months ago. Look at the crappy chunk out of the slide in this XDM with the 4.5 barrel. This is supposedly the way it should be but not in my book. There's a jagged notch chipped out of the slide. here is the thread.

Can you explain what you mean by plastic rails, thanks.
I think he means the rear frame rails that the slide rides on. They are plastic and the front frame rails are metal. I have been shooting the XD series for a long time and mine show no wear on the rear plastic rails. The Ruger P95 has front and rear plastic rails. These pistols have gone way up in 50,000 rds and way more with no signs of wear on the rails.

Yeah, kinda seems they came to the conclusion it's "normal."

The used G20 I saw in the LGS at lunchtime was gone by the time I got back there after work at 5:30...:dunno:

Interesting. I have a Kahr CT40 and have heard people say it and other models have plastic rails, but what they're referring to basically acts like a dust cover and guide when reassembling. It has inbedded metal rails. Thanks

The grip of the G20 seemed enormous to me after I finally bought one and then I got to handle a G20SF and that made all the difference in the world.

I have no experience with the XDM but I like the option of the longer 5.25 barrel. With Glock, your only options are G29 (too short) G40 (too long) and G20 (just right) But I think the 5.25 barrel might be even MORE "Just Right"

I like the cleaner looks of the Glock compared to the Springfield however, but I could over look that if the gun was as reliable as the Glock. My only other concern would be how instinctive and comfortable teh Grip safety is to use. I've never had a problem with the 1911 grip safety but the XDM's grip safety doesn't look very substantial or user-friendly, but I don't know, never having shot one.

I owned one of the XD(M) 5.25s in 10mm. The gun was reliable but it didn't excite me and my primary complaint was that if you weren't careful, a less than great grip could still disengage the grip safety. Sold it and wasn't sad about it. Don

The G20 I was looking at was a Gen4, so I guess I could have found the right back strap to fit my hands. I'll never buy another Glock with that giant hump at the rear/bottom of the grip. (Well, unless it's literally too good a deal to pass up.)

I didn't like the Hump at first either but I adapted to it. If the gun doesn't fit your hand, you need to make your hand fit the gun.

That said, Glock should have copied the grip of the Browning Hi-Power which is what CZ did when the designed the CZ75.

My first Glock was a G19 Gen 2 and was easier to adapt to. The Gen 3 G20 was just too big but the SF frame made a huge difference. It also helped to file down the finger groove bumps and slightly under cut the trigger guard.

And that is why I bought the XD.
