i want an RMR-02 on my G19 G3 (7 years old @ 10K rounds), I either have to have it milled or buy a new slide or buy a NEW G4-MOS. So far, its roughly the same $$. give or take. I may just take the G3 and put a light on in for the bedside weapon. Is there any difference besides the difference in the MOS adapter plate vs. buy/milled slide, other than the tiny bit of height difference, whats the real difference?

Any thoughts or suggestions?
I would like a different perspective,

thank you,

RMR sits a little lower on milled slide than MOS equipped slide. Some people say the mounting plate is a potential failure point and claim that the optics have flow off during slide cycle.
With milled slide you are kind of commited to your optic. MOS gives you more flexibility to switch. Also, I expect companies to possibly start offering their own specialized MOS mounting plates in the future if they prove popular. Shield currently offers a proprietary mounting plate for Shield RMS/JPoint that sits lower than Glock OEM.
Personally I went with the G19 MOS because I wanted a new 19 and didn't want to commit to an optic either way. Then I thought I wanted a Shield RMS but am leaning towards the Trijicon RMR now, so it's perfect for someone like me that's on the fence.

The MOS as JoeMag has stated gives flexibility for any particular optic.

One negative of either way is that you will need Cowitness Backup sights. Otherwise, the OEM sights are pretty much useless.

I have a Glock 19 MOS and have a Dual illumination RMR. I am also acquiring a Glock 34 MOS and will add a Vortex.

Since Glock knows most people would use an optic, why didn't they make the cowitness sights standard?

mstillman pardon me for a minor highjack. I just got a 34 MOS and Vortex Viper. Does anyone know if a co-witness FO front sight views well through the dot optic? I assume I would turn the dot sight off if using the co-witness sights.

I love my Glock 19 MOS, I'm sold on red dot 100%. I do understand what you're going through as I own a PPQ M2 9mm 5", now since I'm sold on the red dot I did not enjoy shooting the ppq as much, my Glock became the pistol of choice. Living in NJ its a hassle getting a pistol, so question was to sell PPQ M2 and buy PPQ Match Q5 that has a machined slide from the factory, or having my current slide machined. The Walthers model Q5 is around $800, more then Glock model, and the hassle in NJ of selling a handgun and then re-filing for a permit to buy another, I chose to send my slide out to a fellow in NC that machines PPQs slide as not everyone wants to compared to a Glock there are many choices to have slide cut. The fellow I chose was Mark Housel of L&M Precision Gunworks, he does Glocks also. he came with high recommendations from several people I talked to also. So now I'm waiting to get the slide back and have Leupold Delta Point Pro installed on it as I have that same setup on my 19. Time will tell if the PPQ becomes my favorite pistol again with the red dot installed as it was before the G19 MOS is my current go to pistol hands down, before the red dot the PPQ was my 1 st choice now the 19 is. good luck

At the age and mileage of your pistol, in your position, even though I prefer the 3rd generation Glocks, I would buy a new MOS Gen4 rather than dump money into the older pistol.

Think of it as going out and buying a new sports car rather than dumping money into a 10 year old Corvette with 100,000 miles on it. Will it work out well, quite possibly, but the newer car is going to be the safer bet in terms of longevity and reliability.

This is all my opinion and it worth exactly what you paid for it.

I also really luv the MOS design , I shoot a 34 MOS , you have another Choice as far as adapting your G-3 I recently bought an adapter that fits on slide when u remove rear site I never used it mine is avail for $20 NIB pic here for your gun-if you want it Best ofl

uk enjoy

You may also try UM Tactical and try a cheap red dot($30) to see if you like it, and you can switch to several different guns or on and off the same gun in 3 seconds and it always holds zero.

Shop around for a better price. And they are good people to deal with and will do anything to help you.
This is the route I intlialy went with, now 100% red dot guy

I have a G19 MOS with the Shield mount for the Glock MOS pistol with a JPoint MRDS sight. Also using Trijicon HD suppressor height sights that co-witness. I also have a Vortex Venom MRDS and can swap if one does go down. The Shield MOS mount secures the JPoint very well and there is no room for the sight to move on recoil.

YMMV
ps: I also picked up another JPoint for a very good price, much less than retail as new old stock. I now need a G17 MOS or another G19 MOS.

If you are willing to commit to a particular RDS and don't intend on selling the pistol or whatever, then there are zero reasons to choose the MOS over milling.

If you think you might sell the gun in the future, switch to a different brand of optic, or might change your mind and not want to even bother with optics in the future, get the MOS.

I'd say buy an aftermarket milled slide or send you oem glock slide to be milled. I bought a zev slide and after some initial trouble with RMR mounting screws from zev everything looks really good now. That being said I am planning on sending my 17 gen 4 slide to ATEI.
