I recently acquired a Gen 5 Glock 19 and here are my initial thoughts:
I wasn't sure how I'd like not having finger grooves but I must admit that it is now a welcomed change. I have small to medium hands and the finger grooves fit me okay, but without them, it just feels more comfy. It’s almost like I have more room on the grip for my fingers to rest. The beveled mag-well really helps lock my hand on the bottom of the grip too. On one of my magazines, I installed the Pearce base plate that fills in the cut out on the front of the grip and it really feels good with that. However, I also enjoy the gun with the OEM baseplates as well. The cut out is not a big deal once you actually start shooting the gun. And trust me…I was very critical of this cut out when handling a G19 in the store. Turns out I was worried about nothing.
Now, onto the ejection issue......
I took it to the range for the first time late last week and I noticed it had very weak ejection. Rounds were consistently hitting my shoulder and forearm with some also landing on my head. I was thinking that it could have been a bad batch of ammo so I took it back home to clean it for another round the following day.
On the second outing, I brought three different brands of ammo for testing. All ammo was brand new in-box and all brass casings...except for my defensive rounds which are nickel plated casings. All variety of ammo had the same typical weak ejection. On a positive note, the gun never failed to feed, eject and cycle all rounds. It ran flawless other than barely ejecting the spent casings.
I own several Gen 4 Glocks and have never experienced this type of weak ejection although I know it was said to have plagued the Gen 4 pistols. It never was an issue for my Gen 4 guns.
I reached out to Glock via e-mail and they were very understanding. In fact, they even sent me a pre-paid FedEx return label. My gun is set to arrive there today and I was told to expect up to a two-week turnaround time. Honestly, I can’t ask for more than that from a company. I want to give them a chance to make it right and to date, they have been fair.
I'm going to keep this thread updated as it progresses just in case others are experiencing the same thing with their new pistols......plus, I know you readers are just on the edge of your seats dying to know what happens next.
(FYI: This G19 has the beveled frame to match the slide and left Glock in October-2017. S/N “BGNxxxx”)
