Glock 19 Gen5 - Ejection Issue

I recently acquired a Gen 5 Glock 19 and here are my initial thoughts:

I wasn't sure how I'd like not having finger grooves but I must admit that it is now a welcomed change. I have small to medium hands and the finger grooves fit me okay, but without them, it just feels more comfy. It’s almost like I have more room on the grip for my fingers to rest. The beveled mag-well really helps lock my hand on the bottom of the grip too. On one of my magazines, I installed the Pearce base plate that fills in the cut out on the front of the grip and it really feels good with that. However, I also enjoy the gun with the OEM baseplates as well. The cut out is not a big deal once you actually start shooting the gun. And trust me…I was very critical of this cut out when handling a G19 in the store. Turns out I was worried about nothing.

Now, onto the ejection issue......

I took it to the range for the first time late last week and I noticed it had very weak ejection. Rounds were consistently hitting my shoulder and forearm with some also landing on my head. I was thinking that it could have been a bad batch of ammo so I took it back home to clean it for another round the following day.

On the second outing, I brought three different brands of ammo for testing. All ammo was brand new in-box and all brass casings...except for my defensive rounds which are nickel plated casings. All variety of ammo had the same typical weak ejection. On a positive note, the gun never failed to feed, eject and cycle all rounds. It ran flawless other than barely ejecting the spent casings.

I own several Gen 4 Glocks and have never experienced this type of weak ejection although I know it was said to have plagued the Gen 4 pistols. It never was an issue for my Gen 4 guns.

I reached out to Glock via e-mail and they were very understanding. In fact, they even sent me a pre-paid FedEx return label. My gun is set to arrive there today and I was told to expect up to a two-week turnaround time. Honestly, I can’t ask for more than that from a company. I want to give them a chance to make it right and to date, they have been fair.

I'm going to keep this thread updated as it progresses just in case others are experiencing the same thing with their new pistols......plus, I know you readers are just on the edge of your seats dying to know what happens next.

(FYI: This G19 has the beveled frame to match the slide and left Glock in October-2017. S/N “BGNxxxx”)

To me ejection is a yes or no question as long as the gun runs I don’t care where or how the brass goes. I never understood why a case bouncing off your head or hat every now and again was an issue. When shooting matches around cover barricades it happens fairly frequently and I don’t even notice it until I see a few marks on my face or hat.

A quick update: I just received a call from Glock. The rep was very nice and explained that they tested my pistol and confirmed my report of weak ejection. They changed out some trigger components and also installed a 19X ejector. He said the gun is now ejecting like it should. I was very appreciative of the update and he said my gun would leave tomorrow.

Thank you for the great customer service Glock!

Nice to that you were taken care of. That's great customer service! The obvious question for me is why didn't Glock use the 19x ejector uniformly across the Gen 5 line? Seems like that's the go to fix and they knew that right away.

Also, what other trigger components did they change? This is the second time I've seen a Gen 5 g19 go back to Glock and they changed out some trigger components. Just curious as to what that may be and why they're doing it.

I would look into two items that may help:

(1) Install the Glock 19X ejector
(2) Apex Failure Resistant Extractor
(3) Number 1 & 2

I was under the impression that the basic 19 / g5, & 19x used the same gen5 ejector. Guess I don't get out enough. Can you provide additional details? Thanks!

Just for reference, I have a Gen 5 Glock 19 with the serial number prefix of BGPA that I picked up about a week ago. It has the 30274 ejector.

Because of my schedule, I have not had the chance to shoot it yet. I was going to wait to get one later in the summer but my LGS had one in stock with Glock night sights so you know the drill, LOL!

The new ejector looks just like the one in the 19X posted earlier in this thread. Here's a list of what Glock changed out for me. Someone with more experience can explain it better than me. Hopefully that fixes my problem. I will go shoot it later this week and report back in.

AND.....as a bonus, and thank you very much Glock, look what they installed on my pistol for me:

The first Gen5 models were the G17 and G19. These came with Trigger Mechanism Housing 33854 which includes Ejector 30274 (the same Ejector that Gen4 9x19mm pistols use in TMH 30275).

Apparently the ejector needed tweaking. The models that were next released are the G19X, Gen5 G26, and Gen5 Gen34. These come new with Trigger Mechanism Housing 47208 which includes Ejector 47021.

No doubt all Gen5-type 9x19mm pistols will eventually be supplied new with the 47208 TMH and 47021 Ejector.

Bought mine in Jan '18 and it performed flawlessly with 124 gr FMJ for 1200 rounds. Tried some 115 gr Hornady XTP from Freedom Munitions and jams would occur after the first round in every mag. Called Glock in Atlanta and was told they were unaware of any such problem but I could send it to them for testing if I wanted to. I'm gonna try some better 124 gr hollowpoints next week and if the problem still exists Ill send it in.
