I want a G27.
Why buy a Gen 5?
Had a Gen 3 and it was a great pistol.
Are Gen 3's still made?

Relevant to slide width on Gen5 in caliber .40 S&W.

Yes, Gen 3 are still made. I'd probably also go Gen 3 for a 27. I have had 2 or 3 of them. Don't know why I keep trading them off.

I pack around a G27 Gen5 and it's nice, the slide is thicker than previous generation .40's but it shoots softer as well.

I don’t like the fact that the Gen 5 .40s are wider. It’s like Glock is regressing now. I don’t know of any other company that has ever said “new gun, now with a thicker slide!” That’s a negative, not a positive.

Gen 3 is where it is at. With the frying pan finish. Find one of those, you can’t go wrong

From my research the thicker slide for the new Gen 5 Glock lineup in .40 is a positive thing. More mass slows the slide down which not only makes the gun shoot softer but also doesn't beat up the frame as much. I'm going to go rent a Gen 5 23 and 27 soon to see for myself.

The thicker slide is both good and bad. It does make shooting it easier, less recoil for sure by a notable margin but it also kills holster compatibility, although you can get Gen5 .40 specific holsters. Keep in mind too that the barrels are also thicker so no previous .40 barrels will fit. Was it absolutely necessary for Glock to do it? Since Gen5's are back to being single pin guns maybe, but also seeing how so many people, I mean pansies, complain about .40 recoil, at least Glock did something about it. Maybe Glock will take this formula and apply it to the G43X, fatten the slide a bit and give us a 9+1rd 40 caliber G43X.
