Here's a question for the OP. You've run your 26 with a dovetail mounted red dot for over 4 years, does it not work well? To me, that's the best of both worlds. You have a solid carry pistol with a sight that's been working for you, and you haven't had to machine notches to fit different sights. Price wise you're into it the cost of the sight and the dovetail plate. I'm actually considering going that route so if I'm not happy with the red dot set-up, I can revert to the stock sights, no harm no foul and I can sell the red dot.
I've got probably around 3,000 rounds through it and have not had any issues thus far. I would like to get the sight plane closer to the barrel so either a slide cut or factory MOS slide is required. Running a Vortex Venom but looking at the Holosun SCS that sits even lower.
Glock is waiting for you to send out your slide to get milled before releasing it
Probably truer than you realize.:D

To use the SCS you have to have the cuts made for the Glock MOS plates since the SCS uses the factory plate holes for its mounting points.

If you want an optic on your G26 and don't want tose your gun for however many weeks it takes to get the slide cut, get a Dueck mount. It replaces the rear sight, has high irons built in and is solid as a rock on my G26, G21 and G29. They cost around the same as an unfinished cut ($125 +/-) and won't change the slide if you decide to sell either the pistol or mount & sight. All my Glocks with the mounts (made of steel) and sights (Holosun) have functioned 100% with this arrangement. Just another option to consider, I can highly recommend them!
Cheers,
