Which would you recommend?

  • G19 is still worth it, it's not that bad to carry it while running

  • G48 is basically just as good, being able to run with it is worth the reduced ammunition capacity.

G19 or G48 for EDC

I'm a Marine that's new to EDC since when I was active duty I spent most of my days on base and couldn't carry. I like Glocks and naturally, everyone says G19 is the way to go, but I've heard that I may want to go with G48 since I want to carry while running and it's a good bit lighter. What are your thoughts?

To clarify for everyone. I am primarily looking for a concealed carry weapon for every day carrying. Running will only make up about 15% or less of my CC time. And while I will be buying many more handguns in the future, I really do have to pick one or the other right now.

I'll mark you down as a vote for G48 then?

Nothing is as comfy as a 48, at least AIWB. I carried a 19 and then 26 for several years. Glock really hit a home run with the 48, I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t had more fanfare.
I think the 48 popularity would greatly increase if GLOCK themselves offered a 15 + 1 solution. Heck, if Shield Arms could get 15, GLOCK should at least be 13, rather than 10.

When I got into guns, many of these options didn't exist. I bought a G19 years ago so my EDC method has evolved over time.

The G19 can be carried while running but you're more limited with regard to clothing choices, lest you print more than the NY Times. A good belt and holster are required, otherwise the gun will jump around and wiggle loose or your belt will loosen and your pants will sag. The G19 also has the benefit of having one of the most commonly used pistol mags around. There are many 9mm pistol caliber carbines out there that take 15 round mags or larger and a G19 will take any double stack 9mm glock mag larger than a G26. The 26 takes ALL double stack 9mm mags.

Years later, when concealment took precedence I bought a G43. These tiny pistols are magnitudes easier to conceal but shooting them well requires a much sharper learning curve than the 19, 48 and 43X. As mentioned above the limited ammo capacity of a 43 may leave you feeling paranoid at times. That said; you may want to consider the G48 / G43X with Shield Arms 15 rounders. The mags are pricey, but they supposedly work really well.

The best thing to do now is to head to a range and shoot the 19, 43, 43X and 48. Find out which gun handles the best for you and while your at it, slip it unloaded into your waistband to sample its concealability. After that, check out IWB holsters and mag options that fit your budget.

Brother, you've been a huge help.

You all have, thanks for the advice... turns out everyone's out of stock anyways due to current circumstances so I'll have plenty of time to test these guys out and make a decision.

Thank again everyone.

Carried my 19 for years. But now the 48 is edc. Slim and accurate. The aiwb teir1 makes it almost disappear with only a T-shirt. I couldn’t do that with a 19. I tried the 43 and was avg to below at combat distances. Yeah more practice would have solved that. But why? Slight grip memory adjustments for the 48 was far more appealing than a complete 43 overhaul.

I have both a G-19, and a G-43X.
But my EDC is a G23. I have had that gen2 G-23, since just after they came out, and we just kind of go together.
Nothing wrong with a 19, or 43X, I just started out with that G-23, and she is like the Eveready Bunny just keeps on Going, and Going. When I start out the door, she almost jumps in my holster. I have to think about taking the 43x, or 19. If I hear something outside at night, the 23 is with me, after I have gone to bed, the G-41 is on the nightstand.

The G48 is just a slim down version of the G19! I carried the G19 as my duty weapon with two extra 15 round magazines but this was great for a Duty Weapon but IMO the G48 is just as good and much lighter for civilian carry with the 10 round magazine for self defense. The Glock Platform is a great Combat Platform and some versions are also great for EDC!

The 48 with the aftermarket mags is a no brainer IMHO, but some people hate anything aftermarket. I have to say that I don't love having to use their mag release but it's really not a big deal. Glock is dropping the ball, they better be happy these mags exist.

If they ever offer a G48 MOS w/rail and black slide I will pick one up.
