Hi all, I've got a standard gen 4 19 that's about 9 years old. Seems all the rage now is mount a red dot on just about every pistol. My aging eyes did well with a friend's G19 MOS.

What is the easiest and most affordable way to mount a red dot?

TIA

Other than buying a MOS model Glock, having the slide milled is your best option. If you have it milled, you can have it milled with the original Glock footprint or have it milled for whatever optic you choose so adapter plates aren't needed. With the Glock footprint, you can mount the Holosun SCS directly to the slide and co-witness with the OEM sights. There's a guy who owns DP Customs llc who has done milling for $75 and refinish for as little as $50.

Milling is probably the best option as mentioned. You can have someone mill the MOS patter into the slide so you can then use plates or just find a dot you like and have that pattern milled, so no plates needed. I had my G19X milled by Jaegerweks for like $125 with the slide refinished. Go with a reputable shop that does this type of work if you go this route.

Other option is to buy an aftermarket slide and transfer your guts over. YMMV here unless you find an actual Glock MOS slide to use. I bought a Brownells slide for a Gen 4 G19 cut to the RMR footprint and it ran flawless.

However, Id beg and borrow time with an optic model to make sure its really what you want to do. Its different enough to where you may be frustrated at the onset. Not a cure for any issues you think you are having aside from vision ones.

i have mounted red dots on several glocks using a dovetail mount in rear sight slot. EGW makes them. milling the slide is best, but the dovetail mount works. i have never had one come loose or move on me.

I've had two Glock slides milled and nitride finished by Jagerwerks. They did a superb job. They also included the proper fasteners for mounting the Holosun RDO footprint I specified.

If you have your slide milled, I suggest having it milled to the Trijicon RMR footprint or Glock MOS footprint. The RMR footprint is the most common, whereas the Glock MOS footprint allows you to use adapter plates for any RDO, or an RDO with a mounting footprint designed for direct MOS slide cutout with the need for an adapter plate (e.g., Holosun SCS).

If you have your slide milled, then I suggest you also buy a slide "cap" in case you decide you don't like shooting your Glock with an optic. You can remove the optic and install the "cap" to fill the milled area on the slide.
