Has anyone used the carry fiber sights on a Gen 5 Glock? I was wondering because they have both a Gen 1-4 option...

and a Gen 5 option.

Both have the same rear sight height, but the front on the Gen 5 option is taller, .235 vs the Gen 1-4 option .205.

I want a center hold, not the Gen 5 combat hold. Should I go with the Gen 1-4 or Gen 5 option?

Thanks for any input.

Don't have experience with the Dawson sights but do know that some people, myself included, saw a definitive difference between Gen 3/4 sights and Gen 5 sights in how they were impacting. Gen 5 sights on my G45 were impacting much lower than I expected or liked.
Somewhere on this forum someone recommended using Gen 3/4 sights on Gen5's and that solved the problem for me.

Seems the Gen 5 rear sight is just slightly lower causing the impacts to be lower. The higher Gen 3/4 rear sight allowed impacts to be slightly higher.
So if I'm reading correctly, the Dawson front sight height being different between the generations effectively has the same difference.

To sum it up (hopefully clearly), is if you like Gen 3/4 POA/POI better, than the Gen5 (which seems to be too low), I'd go with Dawson's Gen 3/4 sights on your Gen 5.

Hope that helps!

Call Dawson.
I did, they basically said, all of their sights are center hold "top of the front sight cuts through the X on a target". Which makes me think just order the Gen 5 for my 17.5.

My hesitation comes from the history of the Gen 5 sights. My 17.5 came with a 6.1 rear, normal front height (4.1?) It shot low with a center hold. I threw on a older Gen-4, 6.5mm rear and it shot POA/POI with a center hold. Sooooo I am not sure which set to get with that knowledge.

Their Gen 5 option says this...

"The Gen 5 Glock requires different sight heights due to barrel lockup and type"

Which I do not doubt but I have never heard that. Most advice here and other places is to get the Gen 1-4 sights if you want a center hold, Gen 5 specific if you want a combat hold.

Heinie says basically the same thing on their website and sells a different front sight for Gen 5.

I have Dawsons, Heinies and Taran Tactical. They are all center hold.

Dawson used to have a program that would allow you to send back a sight and get a height that works. So from what you said the .205" high front would be what works.

I like Heinies best because they were the first to offer aftermarket Glock sights more than 30 years ago. However I machine the rear sight opening to .185" wide for a faster sight picture.
