I would buy a 226. already had a CZ 75.

I own both and went through our LE academy (awarded Top-Gun Shooter) with a Sig P228, so
that is probably the reason I lean that direction, in general. Mechanically, neither one is superior to the other. The CZ can be carried cocked-and-locked.

I wouldn't feel under gunned with either of them.

This will all depend on which one fits and works better for you. My BIL has the Sig P226. I have the 75B. I have shot the Sig many times, but I like the 75 better. He likes the Sig.

I prefer the CZ in every way. Probably for the opposite reasons that someone else would prefer the Sig. For me it's mostly about ergonomics. A CZ just feels right. But keep in mind that the CZ-75B doesn't have a decocker. If that makes you uncomfortable the the Sig would be the better choice.

But the CZ is by far the superior firearm. :)

I have a '96 P228 and a newish 75B.

The trigger and action of the 228 has been worked over by the Sig custom shop, and they did a fantastic job. The 75 is bone stock with the exception of the grips, has thousands fewer rounds through it, and is nearly as smooth as the 228.

The grip on the 75 is slightly more ergonomic, it holds one more round, but lacks any treatment to the front and backstraps.

I'd still go with the 228 if I had to choose one or the other, but that's mostly due to the much greater familiarity I have with it, and I can see that changing very easily as I put more rounds through the 75.

I prefer the P-226 overall in comparison. The biggest issue I have with the CZ design is that with my beefy hands, there just isn't enough slide for me to grab onto when compared to the P-226. The CZ is a great shooter, though. If it fits and works for you, I wouldn't pass it up.

Many good answers above, try before you buy if at all possible.

The CZ 75B is all steel so it's heavier than the Sig.

The CZ 75B has the lower bore axis so that added to the extra weight = less felt recoil with less muzzle flip.

The sig P226 is the newer design both are available DA/SA or SAO while sig has DAO & SRT, DAC and lord knows what other triggers from the factory.

The CZ is less expensive. Stepping up to the CZ 75 SP-01 gives you a better range gun at no appreciable increase in cost over a standard 75B. Moving up the ladder from there things change but deals can be found on the higher end CZ's.

I like both the WG P226 and 75 series of guns. I don't care for Sig USA and they don't get my money anymore.
I can get behind the business practices of an ex com block gun manufacturer and its quirks in production and shipping and thus that's why I own some CZ's and zero Sigs.

Or just get the CZ 75 BD if you want a decocker, same for the SP-01 the SP-01 Tactical is the decocker version.
On most CZ's the D connotation means it will be the decocker version.

Which is better, and why?
CZ75B is better because it can be carried cocked and locked, and has a better trigger.

The P226 is a DA/SA/Decocker/Crunchenticker which has a lousy trigger for that all-important first shot if used as a defensive pistol. For a range gun, the hammer can be cocked for the first shot.

The CZ75 is also a more beautiful gun to look at and feels great in the hand.

OP: You've picked two of the best "fighting" guns in the world. There is no way somebody can tell you which is better. They can only tell you what they like.

I like both frankly. A CZ 75 TS is my Steel Match gun and a P226 is my IDPA gun. The P226 is also my carry gun.

I respectfully disagree with fnfalman about the American vs. German Sig. My Legion has been an incredible gun. I have over 10,000 rounds through it now. ONLY ONE FTF and that was due to an overused recoil spring and reload.

But the cz 75bd does also the cz 75 omega is safety or decocker. I would take a cz 75 bd police over any sig.

YOUR going to have to decide. Either gun would be a fine pistol. I'm a CZ addict, but I've shot enough other gun's to know it's not the only great gun out there. My GloCk 21, for example.
