I have one of the blued Colt Competition models in 45acp. So far it has been reliable, Should have bought the stainless one as the blued finish is not very durable. One of my holsters has started wearing on the finish with only a few times of being used with the gun, Never had that trouble with a Springfield TRP. I may order a new set of sights from Novak, not a big fan of the fiber optic front. Now i am wanting a Delta Elite.

I have a blue one in Super 38 and it's been carried during our warm Arizona temps. The fiber optic front sights with rear black sights work really well on sunlit days, not bad during twilight hours either.

Often overlooked is the machined under cut trigger guard. I have four Colts with this style, for me, it delivers more instinctive targeting from a platform that is already instinctive.

Mine gets dirty with dust and chaf, kinda builds up between the hammer and firing pin stop, it just works and is reliable.

Enjoy

Slide rattles safety didn’t work black finish (stop calling it blued!) very weak and short lived. Expensive compared with clones. My first Colt and last. After I fixed and fitted all the safeties and restoned the sear and replaced the trigger it’s better but what a lot of work to get this gun just to function normally. Dan Wesson’s are much much better in every way.

Dont over insert the mag in the 9mm model and bend the ejector. Coming from the Glock world I never knew this was possible. Tuition paid now I know.
Accuracy was ok not real good or bad.
Loved the blue grips, fit and finish of the gun was good.
Cycled everything. Just average all the way around nothing overly good or bad. Solid gun overall.

Are you certain that's how it happened?

That sounds...

...remarkable. Certainly a point against the weapon if it's even possible.
I've only heard of that happening with officer frames and full sized mags without spacers. Not sure why a proper sized mag would be any different with 9mm over .45 assuming in spec basepads.

I'm not generally a fan of Colts as a gun for value calculation (the name adds price and makes them overcosted for their relative construction, IMO) but I do think the Competition is right in that good value sweet spot. The couple I've looked at were quite nice, and the feature set is just what I'd want for a range 1911, so well done.

Congrats on the new gun!

Colt factory 9mm mags
Yep positive. Brass started ejecting straight back into my face. When I pulled the slide off & tried to put it back on the ejector wouldn't even clear. I had to bend the ejector back to the left to reinstall the slide.
Little research later there isnt a mag over insertion stop, so with a full mag when the cartridges are tight they can bend the ejector.
After more research either colt or the aftermarket started using a short ejector to try and correct this, the longer ejector has more leverage to bend. I traded them (5" competition and a commander all steel size).

Totally my fault, I just didnt know.
