Carry options for t-shirt and athletic shorts/pants.....

I recently added a Kahr P380 to my concealed carry lineup, and I intend to carry it while wearing nothing but a t-shirt and athletic shorts/pants. As most of you know, athletic shorts/pants only have a draw string, so there is no belt.

I have a belly band but hate wearing it in hot weather.

I also have a pocket holster and ankle holster. The pocket holster swings around uncomfortably and the draw is difficult, while the ankle holster works with the athletic pants.....but isn't very accessible in a hurry.

What other options are there?

I have one of these and it’s great. However I found that off body carry for me is challenging. I have 2 young children (2/4) so most of my time carrying in my crossbody I am super vigilant about where it is. I basically found it too stressful because I DO NOT have the option of setting it down basically anywhere. Car, house, you name it and my kids will be going through it. If it were my wife and I I at least could set it on the counter for a minute or 2 while I did something else.
What I’m getting at is yes it’s a great bag but off body carry in general comes with other concerns in my household.

There are some athletic pants / shorts made with a more substantial waistline specifically to support a pistol

Something like this

I always recommend one of these for people afraid of printing. :)
In all seriousness I can't help much I wear jeans constantly even in Florida.
But those instances I wear boardshorts or something on a boat I'll bring my desantis slimtuk holster because it does a pretty good job even without a belt. There's something called an ulticlip or something that is really good for shorts like that, just never tried one.

Raven Concealment is my AIWB solution... Been using them for a loooong time, and they are cooler than Smart Carry or Thunderwear.

I'm pretty sure that we all know that the best plan is to wear a shirt that's not solid colors, and def not solids, especially white!(y)

Not sure how pocket carry anything in sweatpants works. The weight alone is a issue. I dont go in public wearing sweats, pant/shorts & a belt. If i was going sweats, then a good belly band seems about right. Not supposed to be super comfy carry a gun

Get a Smart Carry holster. I wear mine to the gym with the Type of shorts you described.
+1 on Smart Carry.
That's what I came to say.
And you're supporting a local business, OP.
Found it!

Here's my smart-carry with the P380.....I originally used it when I carried a Kahr MK40.....fits perfectly.

The only drawback I see is I'd have to loosen the drawstring to get at it, but that's quick and very doable.

The Smartcarry along with the neck cord holster and pocket holster ought to do me for anything I'll carry it for.

Note: If I'm wearing a belt, I won't choose to carry the P380 because I have other options in 9mm with better capacity for those times.

Edit, a few hours later: I just spent the afternoon mowing lawns in athletic pants with the P380 in the SmartCarry. Worked well, and even though I was sweating, the Kahr stayed dry......excellent......thanks

I’m in South Louisiana. In the summer I wear some outdoor-style shorts that have a little stretch in them (available in big-box stores). These accommodate a 1 3/4” belt and look great with a Carhartt tee-shirt and OluKai shoes. The stretch allows you to get your normal size and fit nicer while accommodating an inside the waistband carry. That 1 3/4” wide belt will accommodate the holster and the loose Tee will cover it with ease. It works because I still feel like I can move well with comfort in these clothes and I look about like everyone else.

This is a more detailed version of how I was going to reply. Unless you're doing something actively athletic, substitute walking shorts (especially those that don't have too long a leg, which is all to common) that can host a belt, for the gym shorts. Then you can have a proper gun belt with a proper holster, but still in appropriate hot weather clothing.

PHLster Holsters Enigma Carry System

You don't need a belt.

As an unreformed beach kid who constantly lives in shorts and t-shirts outside of work, I have been on a quest for years to find the best carry rig for casual wear. Without question, the Phlster Enigma system has proven to be the vastly superior option for me personally. It’s not necessarily the cheapest option available. And, unless you have a pistol model popular enough to be included in their “Enigma Express” line, it requires a minor time investment initially to put it all together.

But once set up, the advantages over belly bands and other options mentioned here are almost too numerous to mention. I said “almost” ;) :

  • Because it has its own belt, you can wear it with all the shorts, of virtually any style, that you already own. Pro tip - order the optional “sport belt” right from the outset. It’s wider and infinitely more comfortable than the standard, narrow nylon strap and the added cost is negligible.
  • In appendix carry, it absolutely does not print.
  • The system is customized to your specific carry piece and can accommodate pistols of most sizes.
  • It holds the pistol securely to your body so that it doesn’t bounce or flop around when making athletic motions or movements.
  • Being secure to your body in this manner, drawing the pistol with one hand is fast, easy and reliable.
  • It utilizes a real kydex holster, so, unlike most belly bands, there are no concerns about trigger security.
  • The left side of the rig has a buckle that is both secure AND allows for a quick disconnect option. No Velcro is used on this belt. It’s also designed so that you can easily, rapidly and fairly inconspicuously loosen and tighten the belt with one hand. This makes wearing the rig while sitting infinitely more comfortable.
  • The rig has a ton of adjustability built into it so that you can fine tune the cant and angle of the holster.

About the only downside to this option is that the kydex holster must be purpose made to be compatible with the Enigma system. Phlster offers a decent variety of holsters themselves and their site also has a list of third party holster makers who offer an even wider selection of holsters specifically made to work with the Enigma system. Most of you won’t have an issue in this regard, but as an example, I’ve not yet been able to find a compatible holster for my Walther P99.

I recently bought the “smart carry”, but off Amazon, $35. I’d say, without a belt, it’s the best way to carry, or for deep concealment at work etc. the draw is not bad, I out a mic trigger guard cover in it with lanyard. stupid simple and effective.

I just wear a regular belt under my gym shorts and use a regular holster I’d use anyways. It tends to sit a tad lower than it would with pants so the shorts can cover it and with a shirt over those it hides things very well.

+1 , I wear a thin nylon riggers belt aka BDU trouser belt under my track pants, gym shorts etc and carry a subcompact like my G3C or Glock 42

Or I just carry my NAA Pug clipped to my waistband with no belt. Any t shirt covers it, I put my shirt under the clip as added concealment .

Usually not the speed strip but it's an option. I feel like 5 rounds of 22 Mag Critical Defense is an ok load out for last ditch point blank defense
