Browning Hi Power from the early 60's?

I don't know if this is more like investment opportunity or solid shooter, but I found what appears to be commercial Belgium made Browning Hi Power 9mm in 98% condition priced at $599. It's 1962-1964 vintage (serial number - 117048). 2 magazines, 4.5" barrel bright and clean (rated as excellent). Should I buy that one? I already had one of the new Browning Hi Powers and true to be told I didn't like the trigger at all, but it's easy to work on from what I've heard and at this price it's kinda difficult to ignore...Thanks for your feedback :wavey: Off to work now.

You probably already know, but the Model 28 is the cheaper version of that pistol. Called the Highway Patrol Model, matte finish, just a good reliable revolver. I think the Texas Highway Patrol were issued them, back then. The Model 27 was the same gun, with a high polish and deep blue finish. I always wanted a 27 with a 2 1/2" barrel. Really cool gun. The 28 was all I ever had, though.
Thanks. I was looking for a future project platform and model 28 fits that bill perfectly. Quite a few of them around, but those are usually the beaters. The one that emerged (I snapped it already) is nearly like new. I'm thinking about building a designated HD revolver next year and now I have what I wanted. Here is my model 27 BTW - too damn pretty to mess up with. :wavey:

Friend of mine just called in and said that there is a minty S&W model 28 for sale (still in the box) in his local store...so I guess I will try to get this one first and think about BHP later :wavey:

Well, I contacted the local BHP guru and asked people around via the Canadian gun forum and obviously the local prices for the BHP pistols are lower than South of the border. I was told that the value of this particular pistol is
, so obviously it's not as good investment as I was thinking. Anyway, thanks again for your feedback.

Good price for any BHP, much less one in that condition and age.

I agree with the others, buy the pistol. The trigger can be improved by a good gunsmith who knows Brownings. While many owners opt to remove the magazine disconnect, there's still room for improvement even with the disconnect.

Thanks Guys, I think I will contact the store today.
I just found it yesterday and it seems like pretty decent deal. Store is located in the different province that suffers from the high rate of unemployement lately. I've seen some interesting guns priced pretty damn good there lately. Maybe someone has the bills piling up...oh well, thanks again for your feedback :wavey:
