picked up a couple new firearms at the shop today. this is one of them.

Bond Arms Bullpup 9 which is an odd design but shoots really good and is a marvel of engineering. yes, the rounds are loaded correctly in the magazine. the slide strips the round out on the way back and chambers the round moving forward. actually works quite well.

A very interesting pistol. The mechanics are unique. How is their track record?

Those are a really cool design. I had a couple when they were first released after following Arne Boberg's development & design progress over a couple years. I loved the idea of them but ran into the typical early adopter trap and had a handful of issues. (My guns were sub-100 serial numbers).

If I had more of a collector temperament, I probably would have kept them just for the sake of having a rare design, made in America, startup company set of guns. However, I'm more of a pragmatist and wanted them as carry guns. Mine weren't reliable enough for that role and I sold them off.

Hopefully, Bond Arms has refined the design and yours is working well for you.

For those who aren't familiar, here are some images of the design. By having the barrel's chamber above the magazine, the gun fits a noticeably longer barrel in a shorter than usual package:

Although, the Boberg "Long" model is 0.6" shorter than the EMP yet has a 4.2" barrel. It's really an amazing design.

Other than looking weird, niche, and good for concealment, are there any shooting advantages?
Trigger pull?
Lighter weight?
Less perceived recoil? (how?)
They aren't overly light, being all metal. But, Boberg did trumpet reduced recoil (and thus improved accuracy) due to the rotating barrel.

Personally, I did not experience any improved accuracy when shooting them side by side with traditional barrel designs. In fact, this target shows how my Boberg compared to a Bodyguard .380 when shooting at the same target from the same distance. No timer used, but a roughly similar rate of fire.

That was just me.

OP, how is the Bond Arms version performing in your hands?

Bond Arms has supposedly made a few improvements to the design:
