Best Glock for open carry?

I'm moving to TN on Thursday and I will open carry at all times while in public.

The medical examiner in the Zimmerman trial said the bad guy lived 1 to 10 minutes after he was shot in the heart with a 9mm hollow point at point blank range.

I'm thinking now that the 9mm is not the best choice.
Moderator Note: I'm inserting the OP's second post at Post #54 here in the original for clarification.
I'm moving from NY to TN on Thursday. I'm 57 and have owned guns since age 6. I own about 15 guns today.

I believe the only thing wrong with concealed carry is that the gun is concealed. I want to be able to defend myself if necessary and I think others in public should know this.

It seems all the people who conceal think it is a bad idea to open carry. However, the people that open carry do so without much fuss.

I'm leaning toward a Glock 22 in .40 S&W for my open carry.

I've always thought the G27 is too big for pocket carry. I'm 5'7" at 200 lbs. I've been considering other states for retirement, and I choose TN because there is no state income taxes and open carry is allowed.
Hope this helps everyone...

Keep in mind the case where the cop shot the guy over 10 times with a Glock 21 45 acp. Several of those hits were in the lungs and heart and not only was the attacker still alive but he was still in the fight. No gun is perfect. Carry what makes you happy. For me it would be the Glock 19.

Define lived. Did he continue to bash GZ's head into the sidewalk after he was shot? Or was it a one shot stop? Not sure about everyone else but I was trained that you shoot to stop the action that caused you to draw in the first place. No more. No less.

I would say living 1-10 minutes after being shot point blank in the heart is very different than still being a threat. Treyvon Martin likely wasn't doing anything but laying there bleeding from the time he was shot to the time he expired. Just because he was breathing for up to 10 minutes takes nothing away from the effectiveness of the 9mm round for self defense.

That being said, any Glock will be perfect for open carry. Hell, a G35 would make a fine carry pistol if it doesn't need to be concealed.

Im going to say it was likely a one shot stop since Mr. Zimmerman decided pulling the trigger once while he still had a full magazine was sufficient. I could be wrong though. It was a KelTec so it may have malfunctioned when he tried to shoot again.

I thought he said he lived 3-10 seconds. I doubt very seriously it was 10 minutes if he was hit in the heart. You have to remember that the prosecution was trying to make this sound as bad as possible, even if they have to stretch the truth a little.

Moving from where? Up north? Commiefornia? And just a helpful hint, open carry is not the smartest thing to do. You draw unwanted attention from good and especially bad guys. Criminals don't carry a sign announcing their intent. They will spot your gun and you'll be the first to be taken out of their way. Concealed carry is the only way to go in public, unless you're wearing a badge and a uniform. Ever notice that even detectives don't open carry? They don't drive marked cars either. Anyway, good luck. :wavey:

The medical examiner for the body, said, in his opinion that he lived for 1 to 10 minutes after the shot. That was his opinion, based on the situation at hand. He was not there. He does not know how long he lived after the shot. It was his best guess, based on his experience.

The best Glock for open carry is the one you have holstered in an active retention holster. Unless you desire to be on high alert everywhere you go and consider every person around you a potential threat you need a good active retention holster. I only carry a 9MM. There are no guaranteed drop the bad guy in his tracks calibers. Top quality 9MM ammo like CD or Hydra-Shocks is what I carry. Really, I chose those two not just because I "think" they are the most lethal but because they consistently function flawlessly in my carry gun. I'd rather have FMJ ball ammo that'll run faithfully than the latest elephant killing round that may not feed well in my gun.
Please, I am all for open-carry but I fear a great many that do it are not taking enough care to see that their weapon isn't taken from them and used to commit a crime. When I do open carry I try to have a loose fitting shirt with the shirt-tail hanging out untucked . I just don't want any more attention than needed.
As a side note; I don't know if it's still there but there used to be a stuffed polar bear in the lobby of the Anchorage Int.ll Airport . It was the largest polar bear ever officially recorded. The thing was a true monster. He was killed(dropped dead in his tracks) by one shot from a .22LR. The camper that killed him said he waited until the bear growled at him and put one bullet into his spinal cord at the back of his mouth. That camper had a set is all I can say. You just never know how lead will react to flesh.

The 9mm worked perfectly. One shot and the attack against him stopped. Open carry at all times while in public? Why?

open carry around here is incredibly common and this is a densely populated area. Carry however you prefer. I've been seeing open carriers on a daily basis for at least the past 5 years. Yet to hear of one story where the gun was taken from the guys holster. That's a ballsy move. Most thugs arent that brave.

Edit: Ive also yet to hear of a story where an OCer was shot.

Sounds like you're looking to draw attention to yourself, OP.

Carry concealed.

What an asinine thread.
I can't quite agree with you here. I generally prefer CC, but there is something to be said about showing people that good people have guns, too.

I have been in more than a few conversations with people that began to sway their opinion because they had just never seen the image of a gun owner that the media typically fails to portray.

That's cool

Whatever the case may be, you're still drawing attention to yourself. I'm of the opinion that most people who open carry want the attention.

That may not be so in your case, but it certainly is around here.

Yeah, I agree 100%, Joe.

People can say whatever they want. I firmly believe its all about trying to look cool and attention getting to 90% of the people who open carry. I've been carrying many, many years and never once did it openly. It's just stupid, in my opinion.

Sorry to offend anyone, but I generally don't mince words.
