I believe the desire to "pre-stress" physically depicts the decay in society's system of "working up the ladder". People (especially younger folks) have become addicted to "instant gratification"; rather than earning a well-worn finish by sending 10's of thousands of rounds down range, many would rather have "the look" without the work. Folks like this wish to convey visually that they are "experienced", rather than wear out their firearms, their jeans, their barn-find hotrods that they can't afford to refinish.... it all seems to stem from the same desire to look "authentic", without the years of experience required to get it naturally.

But that's JMHO....

I don't care what people do to their cars, jeans, or firearms, as long as they pay for it themselves.

Forums are overwhelmingly about opinions. That’s understood. If everyone kept their opinions to themselves forums would shut down. I want to hear other opinions. Even ones I disagree with. I’m a big boy. If someone calls one of my guns ugly I’ll be OK. It’s not like someone insulted my mother.
Exactly.

I don't understand all the butt-hurt about this thread. The OP didn't go into a snowflake thread about their cool new "battle-finsh" and call them a poser; he started a thread - a DISCUSSION - on a DISCUSSION board stating that he didn't "get it". Clearly, a number of us more "seasoned" individuals agree with his assessment.

So why all the umbrage and hand-wringing??

I like the customization of anything. What I despise it the ugliness of people who sling judgement as if they hold some superior position in life.

Just a thread full of hate as far as I can see.
"Sling judgement"?? "Superior position"?? "HATE"???

I think your meter needs re-calibration, my friend. If you think this thread is about "hate", I don't know how you get by in this day and age.

When did it become not OK to have an opinion that something other people choose to do is ugly? When did that become "judgemental" or "HATE"?

This generation is truly going to the dogs...

I had a Glock 35 with over 100,000 rounds through it it didn’t look that bad when I traded it in.

How do you like it? Compared to Schmidt bender

Pppffft. You can’t compare them. S&B is another level.

The Sig is a better scope with better glass in my oppinion than the Leupold MK4 that was on the M24’s I got to shoot.

But it’s also much newer. So that’s kind of expected.

For the shooting I do, I couldn’t really justify the S&B price

My 2 deployment M9 was in better shape. Albeit it did look like hell.
My 27 shot much tighter than the 35 at the end.
still able to pull a 300 but instead of a group the size of my fist it was the size of a dinner plate.

Why pay?
Dinged trap grade Model 12 barrel getting it out of safe- free battle worn
Hardware screws on sling of H&R SB2 ultra rifle .22-250 dug into stock while in soft case- free battle worn
870 leaned against tailgate lost to gravity in driveway- free battle worn
Duty Glock 22 with years of service- free battle worn
