Anyone Carry a Hi Power ???? Holster Advice Please!

Hey all.

I have an FN Hi Power that I want to try and carry. I’ve never carried it and want to get used to it first and then put it in the lineup for carry.

I’m looking for some suggestions on a decent holster for it. The problem is I haven’t figured out whether I’ll carry it IWB or OWB and since cold weather is approaching, I could carry with a shoulder holster.

For those tgst carry your Hi Power, what holster do you use? Have you tried other holsters before you arrived at the one you’re using now?
I am thinking that leather is the best way to go for a Hi Power or maybe one of those leather lined Kydex rigs. I’ve never seen or handled one of those, but the one I looked into several months ago got really high marks from owners. It was close to $90, I think. I can’t recall the name of it though.

What holster do you use for carrying your Hi Power? Any suggestions or recommendations you care to give on holsters for it?

Thank you for your time and help. I appreciate it.

Stay safe guys and gals!!
Larry

The HP is a great gun! I carried one for a few years and a 1911. Your draw has to literally become second nature on those guns. I still have a shoulder holster, a cross draw holster, an IWB and OWB holster I used back in the day.
They are all old holsters (all leather.) I think my fav was the Milt Sparks OWB. Not sure if they still make it though.

i appreciate your desire to carry your HiPower, but if it were mine, i might consider it to valuable to risk carrying. if i have to use my Shield, 365 or j-frame, i likely will have to surrender it for an unknown amount of time and the condition of the gun may be greatly depreciated. they can be easily replaced as well, not as easily done with a fine FN HiPower or even a higher quality 1911., just my .02 cents.
though i do love a beautiful leather holster for a blued steel historic pistol....

I'm an old guy, who still uses old time equipment.

My preferred holsters for Browning HiPowers and 1911 pistols has been Bianchi leather model Model 5 BHL.

In fact, even surprising myself I still use that holster with a a Colt Commander in .45 ACP,

The holster itself is every minute of 40 years old.

Goodness.... I am old..... lol

EDIT: My apology, I mis-spoke.

I meant to identify the holster as for autos as the Model 19L

The 5 BHL was specific to revolvers, although very much the same holster.

For OWB just pick a traditional pancake style from one of many, many different quality makers and you’ll be good.

Milt Sparks
Kramer
Ritchie Leather
Wright Leather
Brigade
Galco

Etc, Etc, Etc. There are lots of places turning out good leather these days. I personally much prefer owb over iwb for something like a Hi-Power.

I had a DeSantis that also worked as a 1911 holster. The fits are pretty close although I would say the HP is a bit smaller so tension screws and thumbsnaps help with that.

I have an Argentinian Hi Power, I've found it is a bit dicey due to bullet capacity (13+1)and the small size of the safety if you carry it cocked and locked. You can do it but there are better options. The Hi Power clocks in at 32 oz + bullet weight so it's around 39 oz loaded, same weight as an unloaded 1911.
