Anyone carry a +1 or +2 Glock 42 magazine?
If so, what brand is it? Why do you trust it?
I wish Glock OEM made one, but....

I too wish there was an OEM +1 or +2. But Glock is not always into giving the customer what he wants. Though many have had good luck with Taran and other aftermarket extensions - though not everyone has - I just can't bring myself to use anything but OEM.

I've never run out of ammo in a gun fight with an OEM Glock mag, so that's good enough for me.

That's basically where I'm at as well. If Glock made one, like my former Ruger LCP did, I'd own one and carry one. I do one of the Glock OEM mags with extension, but it's just a pinky extension. Boo! Wish they would at least make a +1. They'd likely sell a ton of them.

There is prolly some market strategery going on there. If you make a G43 with an OEM +2 option, then you are sacrificing G43X sales. And there may very well be the .380 equivalent of the 43X and 48 on the horizon. So old man Gaston may have a pecuniary interest in keeping the 42 as a 6+1. He wants me to buy a 42X, which he knows dang well that I will.

I've learned that I can trust OEM Glock magazines with my life. But I would never trust any aftermarket magazine and in a gun like a G42 or a G43 it just makes the gun less concealable but I do wish Glock would make factory extended mags that you could carry as spares.

And after carrying 5 shot snubbies for years, 6 plus one is plenty for me. If I can't get the job done with seven shots. I'm probably S.O.L..

Your response nailed it. I couldn't agree more. If Glock made an OEM +1, I would own it and carry it sometimes.
But I will not carry any magazine that's not OEM or altered in anyway.

I use MagGuts in all of my G42 mags. (I also use MagGuts +1 in my G43 mag in the gun and MagGuts+2 on a spare.)
I’m a big fan of MagGuts because they work reliably and do not change the size of the OEM flush fit mags.

I had a +1 OEM LCP magazine and it always jammed on the second to last round. I have an aftermarket +1 on my 42 and it has been flawless. I wouldnt put so much weight in OEM. Plenty of companies make better sights than Glock, they make better triggers than Glock and they make excellent base plates. I've run pearce extensions on my 26 mags too and have never had an issue. Pearce knows what they are doing. They've been in this game for a very long time and I've never heard a complaint on their 42 +1 extensions. look at the reviews on Midway.

I use the ETS 7 round mag , it`s a clear polymer magazine and i have had 0 issue`s with it , i bought 2 and tested them both extensivly and i am satisfied to carry them as my primary magazine and back up mag ,, i tried the maguts insert in the S&W 380 Bodyguard i had and experianced mixed results depnding on the ammo i was using , good product but it just didnt work for me .

Not being an a$$ but I don't understand why you asked.
My wife and I both carry +1 Pearce extensions on our 42's. Not only that but we have 20 +1's on our competition mags for GSSF. Never had a problem out of any of them.
No worries. I was just wanting to see who "carried" something other than OEM, etc. It's tempting, I'm leaning with staying 100% OEM.

I broke my 42 in with a PROMAG +3... It conceals well IWB!

I have a Plus 3 MEGAR in my P3AT and P32/s. All have worked as they should.

I never pack a standard Mag other than in a spare pocket. But always with a Pinky grip..... Just sayin.

I don't do range time nor exotic super bullets!

GOD knows if I ever need to do the deed.... I'm going to have enough problems with the courts with the plus mags.

I use the Strike Industries +2 bottom plate. My testing shows that it's completely reliable. Note that SI +2 does not come with a spring. It uses the OEM spring instead, which is long enough to lift 8 rounds. Other extensions come with their own springs sometimes (I don't know about Taran, but Ghost does for sure). I actually bought a Ghost just so I have a longer spring if any unreliability surfaces, but there was no need to install it.

In just the past year, I found ETS 12-round magazines to be very reliable. So, I started using them for backup and only have 1 OEM magazine in the gun (although I only load 11 rounds, just in case). However, you do not need to search far before you see posters hating upon the ETS magazines. Not sure what to make of that. I do not think for 1 second that everyone is an idiot and I'm the smartest Glock shooter on the Internet. But perhaps I was lucky, or ETS improved their quality.

I'm with WeeWilly and Hexe9, the Magguts +1 for G42 mags are flawless. Seeing their posts and confidence in the past, I bought four kits and tested them extensively. Magguts work just as good as the original Glock follower/spring, and the magazines still seat easily when fully loaded. I use the +1 mag in my daily pocket carry G42. Eight rounds in a pocket handgun with no extra length is great.

I had a G42 with night sights that I ended up trading towards a G43x and i regret it, it shot very well and was quite accurate. I didn't care for the G43X and got rid of it too, now I want the G42 back. I'm also interested in knowing about the higher mag capacity options.

Seems like the magguts +1 is the most common/trusted method, and or the Pierce +1. Keeping my eyes open and only time will tell.
But...in the meantime do you think you'll be able to walk the streets safely with that mere 6+1 load of mighty 380ACP devastation? :)

The persistent never-ending concerns for greater capacity seem to indicate that almost EVERY real-world citizen self-defense event requires emptying several magazines before resolution. In fact, the documented use of even a couple of rounds in such situations is almost nonexistent in the USA. It's the stuff of TV, movies, and internet and gun store Kommandos. :)

Look...if you are relying on 380ACP as your standard self-defense round then you have far more issues than magazine capacity. Most who rely on a 380ACP autopistol the size of a G42 would be better armed with the lighter Ruger LCR revolver....and get a better round (38SPL) in the upgrade.

I carry my G27 more often, actually. But on certain days, depending on how I'm dressed (it's hot here most of the year), I'll carry the G42. It's an awesome tool and the .380 is an awesome round. Besides, you're getting off topic. Not asking for your advice on a caliber choice. I'm talking to G42 owners and their experience with extended round option for our magazine.

but why not on the primary mag? Lack of complete trust? Or prefer the OEM flush mount mag for compactness?
I use my 42 for pocket carry at work. The Pearce +1 makes it a teeny bit harder to get out of the pocket. It also makes ir print just a bit more.
The two I have never failed in any way, they just don't conceal as good as the flat base plate.

Another hear for the Magguts or Pearce +1's.

I know it's apples to oranges but the LC9s in my Avatar has the Magguts +1 in 4 of its mags and I run the Pearce +1 pinky extensions on my G26 mags.

I really believe you would be happy with ether.

Dangit,,, yall gonna influence me into buying a G42 now. :D I keep making a list of pistols I want and that's all,, then hear another thread about a G42 pops up and I am wanting one. ;)

I just tested Vickers +2 with various JHPs yesterday.
I still want to test a couple of different +P rounds, but so far my G42 (with DPM system) has been working flawlessly with MagGuts+1 and Vickers+2 shooting popular JHPs rounds in std. pressure.

Pearce +1 on all four of my magazines! Many thousands of rounds fired and no problems ever.

So I use +2 extensions from Taran Tactical (side note: discount for 1st responders/military), Promag 10 round, and OEM Glock 42 mags. I have a combined 500 rounds (FMJ & HP/defense rounds) thru the TT +2, Promag 10 round, and OEM glock (6 round). Yes, if Glock made them, I would buy Glock OEM higher capacity mags/any size magazine that is larger than the OEM 6 rounder.

I have used the ETS G42 mags, but do not have enough rounds through them to decide if they are reliable for EDC. Maybe Magpul will jump on board and start marking G42, G43, G48 mags?

I attached some mag comparison pictures (all new to attaching pictures so apologies if the pics are messed up!).

I've owned two G42s and love them--soft shooting and more accurate than it should be.

+1s (Pearce and TTI) or the +2 TTIs never gave me trouble (I'm surprised by the guy who had issues with BOTH--I'm wondering if that was after thousands of rounds or right from the start).

NOTE: For 380, I really only trust FMJs and Hornady XTPs (I would trust Buffalo Bore if I could afford them). I don't carry an extra mag, and just never felt super comfortable with 8+1, so I eventually went to the 43X and P365 (more ammo and cheaper to practice). I think the revolver era guys feel better with 8+1 than those of us raised on Glock 19s/26s, USP Compacts, etc.

I think you’re right about the “revolver era guys.” :D I tend to feel pretty comfortable with only 7 to 8 rounds. (I usually carry a spare magazine with +2 extension, though.)
