I mentioned Amazon because that is where I got mine and that is who sent me the notification.
Never said it was just an Amazon thing…
Actually you did. The thread title begins with,
Amazon says

But it's good that Amazon is on top of such things for their customers.

Hilarious that the recall report says that consumers should STOP USING the product until they get.... the sticker (that they're going to toss in the garbage)! LOL! Well it doesn't say exactly that. But that's what it means.

Remedy:
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled firearm sights and contact SIG SAUER for instructions on how to submit a picture of the serial number to receive a free recall kit, which includes a new cap with the required labeling and an updated instruction manual.

Amazon says that SIG Romeo-5s are being recalled

Apparently the battery is a chocking hazard. .

OK. . How many people let their 4-year-old play with their Pistol Red Dots?

The recalled firearm sights contain a button cell battery that violates the mandatory federal regulations for consumer products containing button cell batteries because the button cell batteries can be easily accessed, posing an ingestion hazard. The products include a button cell battery which is not in child-resistant packaging as required by Reese’s Law. In addition, the products do not bear the required warnings. When button cell batteries are swallowed, the ingested batteries can cause serious injuries, internal chemical burns and death, posing an ingestion hazard to children.

Don't have any little kids at home and all my Romeo-5s are installed on firearms, so I'm ignoring this BS "Safety" recall.
It’s the adults they’re concerned with. The ones like myself who used to throw D cell batteries into burn barrels for fun. 😎

It isn’t just Sig optics. It’s all product that takes a disc lithium battery. I sold literally 100’s of thousands of guitar tuners to Amazon each year.

About six months ago I got notice from Amazon that going forward the compartment cover would have to have a screw vs the normal twist off mind. This is a government regulation but Amazon took action ahead of the mandate time
"We're from the government. We're here to help."

Reeses's Law is nearly as absurd as California's Proposition 65 warning labels.

Buy a riflescope and it requires a warning that says "this product may expose the user to lead".

Apparently the required warning on lead ammunition, the actual source of the "hazard", doesn't give warning enough....

Brass garden hose nozzles also require a lead exposure warning.

The thing about unnecessary consumer warning labels is they get ignored. They become white noise. Then all consumer warnings become the equivalent of the boy who cried wolf, and they lose effectiveness.

Like reading any owner's manual but particularly the owner's manual for any firearm. The first 10 pages is nothing but warnings.

This is not only Sig and Amazon, if there is anyone here that uses Costco hearing aid batteries, the packaging change was made a while ago, and you damn near need a band saw to access the battery in the new packaging.

See my post above

5 year old kids should not be allowed to remove the batteries from their guns. Even in America.
You're missing the point, Reese's Law doesn't differentiate between toys, tools and other gear. Biden quietly signed this Law while distracting you with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the overturning of Roe v Wade by the Supreme Court. ;)
Obviously it's not even just a Sig thing. I wonder if button batteries can be sold in the blister packs like candy they come in.
They do, but you have to access each blister individually with a knife or other sharp object to get at the battery.

Note to all:

While I would be happy to punish anti-gun organizations if it was their policy (say, Amazon is using it as an anti-gun weapon to bend policies, but only cost Amazon the replacmenet costs), I would happily send mine back to force Amazon to absorb costs and spend money.

But in this case, it appears that if I send it back, it also would hurt SIG (having to add labels or security to keep the battery safe/secured). I don't want to punish SIG, so I will NOT be sending mine back.

As others noted, it is a gun item, and just like batteries and Tide laundry pods, should be stored in a way to prevent children from harming themselves (which is MY responsibility, and one I take seriously). But I don't want this nonsense propagating and harming the businesses scrambling for compliance.

Green Dragoon provided valuable context. Let's NOT force companies like his and SIG to incur added costs to comply. It only hurts them.

I worked for years in a vet clinic. Batteries and magnets are REALLY bad news when ingested. Keep them away from children and pets!

But having SIG send us a sticker about what we know is just punishing a company financially for no added real-world reason. These should be secured, and everyone on this forum is smart enough to realize that.

But if you do have a concern that someone you know or in your family does NOT know to secure batteries from children, by all means do the recall, take the sticker they send you and staple it to their foreheads (so that the adhesive does not come loose!) and they will quickly learn how to keep children safe via sticker/staple mental behavior association!

This seems stupid and I am not doing it. I store my 2032s for other units and 1632s for my MSR and all my other spare batteries on the kitchen counter on a battery organizer with a built-in tester. It would be retarted for me to request this sticker to put on my Romeo 5 that is always in a safe.

Mount that sticker On "a letter of recognition" for posterity.

This recall is a nice example of government pantomime. In other words, the illusion of doing something important when you're not really doing anything at all.

But the threat of being sued is very real, so companies comply with the BS.

Remember McDonald's getting sued for their Hot Coffee? Customer asks for Hot Coffee, customer gets Hot Coffee then spills it on their lap and sues McDonald's for the Hot Coffee! Now cups have to be properly labeled as Contents Hot. As if you didn't know that when you ordered the Hot Coffee!

Regrettably, not a year goes by that I don't hear about some dumbass that does something really stupid with a product and the company takes the blame.

You can't fix stupid, but adding a sticker helps when idiots come to place blame for their OWN dumbassery.

I guess we're living in the days of, Not My Fault.

If you think the sticker helps you, go for it. As for me, I'm ignoring the recall. If I choke on the battery, well that's one me.

JMHO

Prop 65 Warning ⚠: reading this post could cause lead exposure.

I call this mindset "Safety Theater".
