45 SUPER & G41 Gen 4

I'm wondering if anybody here has tried 45 Super in a G41 Gen 4 with an aftermarket barrel that offers full case support and doesn't stick out of the slide 2 inches?

I was thinking about trying 45 Super in a 41 before going with a G20 10mm but most people said don't do 45 Super in a G41. This guy on Youtube though shoots a 45 Super Glock 41, can't find anything where he tells what mods he made but it does have an aftermarket barrel.

I think you could shoot a few mags once in a while of commercially available 45 Super from a bone stock GEN4 G21 or G41 with zero issues.

If you reload and push the limits then no, very bad idea - if you shoot hundreds and hundreds of round bad idea.

The G21/41 and G20/40 are pretty close to the same gun - same RSA - yes the slide of the 10MM is slightly heavier but IMHO a rounding error.

But would I do it? No I color inside the lines when shooting guns.

That said - if I wanted to shoot 45 Super I would buy a H&K - some of their guns are rated for it right out of the box - USP & Mark 23 maybe one other I can't recall.

Yeah, I've been reading up on HK a lil bit and they have a couple 45's that can shoot 45 Super due to better case support. I don't plan on shooting 45 Super often or exclusively but it would be nice to shoot a 45 that's in the ballpark of 10mm in terms of velocity.
45 ACP seems to always be available in several weights and I have a some stored away. 45 Super is a little bit less available and cost just a little bit more.
I'll make a decision in the next couple months or so. I doubt I'll ever give up 45 ACP now that I've gotten into it and shoot it pretty well. The recoil is not bad at all, so I'm willing to go a little bit further in that department for more power and velocity for certain situations.
I like how my G21 fits my hand and the relatively soft recoil.
The G20 is definitely on the list if I do go to a 10mm. I understand that it has a little bit more "snap" than 45 but I'm not afraid of recoil as long as I can shoot it accurately and followup quickly enough to warrant that extra recoil.
I'm still in the research stage for now.

If going the Super route in a Glock I would think a Barrel and a different Recoil Spring would be the two items that would need addressed first if you are going to really wind it up. With a Gen 3 quite possibly a Recoil Buffer would be worth while. Which Recoil Spring to use might take some research.
If the plan is to just warm it up a "very little" past Plus P 45acp, you could probably get by with no modifications if you did not put a lot of the hotter rounds through it.

I would do research on G20 modifications for HOT Ammo. I would think Warming up a 10mm would require the same modifications as warming up a 45acp.

The one issue with really warming up a 45Super is getting the ammunition in something not nearly robust enough to take it. At one time I had a S&W 625 that I wanted to wake up. I first went the 45 Super Route. I was always worried I might wreck my Colt 1911 by accidentally getting the Super ammunition in it. I ended up having the Cylinder Bored for 460 Rowland.

Good Luck on your adventure.

I must have gone down the 45 Super path 5 or 6 times -

Should I modify my G21? Should I buy a H&K, should I just go 10MM?

Then I ask - why is it that I want a 45 Super?

I have no need for it - or a 10MM so once I have it what will I do?

Shoot it at the range once or twice a year.

So I have resisted -

Then I turn to - maybe I should be adding a suppressor to my G21!

Or I could just buy the F&N tactical I always wanted with the threaded barrel!

Or should I do a 9MM first?

I can actually see using a suppressed pistol in 45 ACP as a home defense pistol.

Look over there a squirrel!

I can actually see using a suppressed pistol in 45 ACP as a home defense pistol.

I've had this set up for many years. HK USP .45 Compact with a CCF licensed copy of the B&T suppressor. Easy to control in a USP, good sound reduction, no ear protection needed when shooting standard pressure loads outdoors. Plentiful ammo supply for this sub sonic caliber. If you don't reload, consider the 45. Sub sonic 9mm is not always easy to find, if one doesn't reload.
The .45 is still a very good choice for self defense. It's a good thing that new cartridges are continually being developed, but I don't see where most of them do anything that much better than the standard self defense cartridges like the .45, .40, 9X19, .357. mag, 44 & 41 mag, and the modern 38 special cartridges.

Does anyone think the 41 is too svelte compared to the 21 for hotrod 10's and 45 supers? I got a 21.4 with the versatility in mind, but am thinking about changing to the 41 for its thin/lightness/sight radius. All that said, the 21 is a nice light-shooting tackdriver..! Anyone think of using DPM recoil systems with the 41 to tame supers, save the frame wear? Gee I wish I could load 45's like y'all lucky gents!

I wouldn't run really heavy .45 Supers through a G41 because the slide is the same thickness as 9x19 and .40 slides and it weighs less than a G21. With something like a KKM barrel on it (for better case support), I'm sure it would handle moderate .45 Super loads (230gr @ ~1100 fps) pretty well, stock Gen4 RSA should hold up fine. When I was testing .45 Super loads in a G21 non comped gun, with a stock 4.6" KKM and could get 230gr to around 1150 fps and 200gr to around 1275 fps but slide speed was getting too fast, I suspect the same (worse really) with the G41.

Red,
I'm waiting on the delivery of a G21SF grip frame I got from GunBroker. I intend to use a Bar-Sto barrel to make a dedicated 45 Super pistol. Wolff Gunsprings sells guide rods and heavy springs to fit a Gen 3 slide. I see a G41 as too light for 45 Super, a few rounds is okay, but I wouldn't want to try one often.

Thanks, at this point I’m interested, but not doing anything 45 Super. I find it fascinating the energy available in 45 Super. I have a KKM barrel in my G41, but OEM in my G21. IDK what the specifics would be to run 45 Super in the 41, but that is my only candidate. And in Kalifornia the muzzle brake may become a legal issue.
Thanks for feedback & making this alive thread to follow.
