Colt USGI 20 rd mags are great, inexpensive and plentiful. I usually bring a few just for zeroing from the bench. Otherwise, it's 30 rd mags as I do most of my shooting offhand.

I agree on the great, but question the other two. Sources and prices?

Never saw 30 in the service, tho' reputedly the guys running thru' the jungle *****ed because Charley had 30s for his Kalashnikov.
Currently, green tips live in my30s, and 55s live in my 20s, especially for the homemade M16A1 replica.
Get GI 20s; they're fine. They do keep the rifle lighter and handier as well.

Yeah I like the handier feeling of the rifle. With my 40 round Pmags the rifle feels not so handy. To be honest I haven't shot my AR with the 40 round mag yet.

I know magpul makes very good 20 round mags for the AR15. My only complaint is I want shorter in length reliable 20 round AR mags. Maybe the magpul one's will be fine for bench and rest shooting for trying to get good groups on paper. Should I just buy the 20 round magpul mag?? Thanks
Yes. I use them on the bench and they are great. Not too long.

For the OP; is there a particular reason for your desire for MagPuls rather than more conventional magazines? MPs have a great rep; I'm just curious.
As noted, 10 rounders are available (Mine is ASC, New Britain, CN), and is purely for bench work.
Otherwise, I have GI 20s and 30s as needed.
Give us a little more info.

Well I only own Magpul(17) AR mags. I think the 40 round magazine makes the rifle feel less balanced. I just thought a couple of 20 round mags would be nice to have.

USGI, never had a problem and my life depended on them!
Yeah I think the 20 round USGI 20 round mags are short her than the Magpul 20 round mags. For some reason I like a shorter mag. I probably will buy the USGI mags. They're made by Colt right?? I see them for $19.99 which is a bit more expensive than the Magpul 20 round mags.

Shop around for the GI 20rd mags. NHMTG made the originals for Colt, but there are other good GI mags out there.
You should be able to find them for less than $20.

Primary Arms currently has Lancer 20 rounders in smoke on sale for $14.00. Very good price for a great mag.

A couple months ago I bought 5 translucent mags from Spikes Tactical for about the same price. I was pleasantly surprised when the mags that were delivered were smoke.

Get a few MAGPUL 20-rounders for the bench. They work very well for that kind of shooting. I like 20-rounders for use my precision ARs when shooting from the bench or a prone position. For everything else, 30-rounders are a must.

I've always preferred the GI 20's for most uses. I've also gone to the Lancers. They are excellent.

Even for home defense, a 20rd mag is what would be in my Carbine.
