My RO was picking up my 10mm that didn't fly down range last night. He then came over and said one of the empty lanes had a bunch of 10mm! I scored over 2 dozen of A USA. Anyone have experience with this or know who makes it? Thx

Several trustworthy reloaders don't use A USA brass, so I've taken their word for it. I toss 'em in the recycling bucket.

A good sticky on good vs bad brass on the reloading forum.

I just started loading 10mm even though I've had a G-20 for a while. Been mainly using Armscorp new 180 gr. loads with no issues. However, my first batch of reloads had a bunch of issues with the once-fired A USA cases. I used a LW 6" barrel as a test gauge and most of the A USA loads flunked the test as they were too long, protruding past the end of the chamber by several millimeters. None of the other mixed cases had any problems. I'm now sorting through my brass and scrapping the A USA. It seems odd as they work fine in my gun. I need to check a box of their new loads with the barrel to see if they are just too long from the factory. Otherwise they must stretch somehow, either when being fired or during my reloading process. I'll get an EGW gauge in 10mm to speed up the checking process.

Anyhow, appreciate any thoughts on this. I'm an experienced reloader, primarily do pistol cartridges.

I typically toss them. Coincidentally, I was loading some 10. I noticed that at station 2 it felt like there was no primer at all. I pulled off the case and looked. Sure enough, there WAS a primer, but the pocket was rocked.

Then I noticed that the case was called severely as if the sizer was smearing spackle. It has all of the hallmarks of once fired brass. A USA headstamp. Somehow missed a range pickup.

Something is messed up about that metallurgy!

plenty neck tension with .401 hard cast 200 grain bullets that we use.

Have reloaded it a few times now, just over 1200 fps, no smileys, no loose pockets, nothing.

Can't find anything wrong with this brass, and if loads are worked to its weight, IE capacity, then any otehr case that we dump that load into has been safe.

YMMV.

Got the EGW 10mm gauge. Decided to toss my fired A USA brass; just not worth messing with. BTW - Found a 10mm with a small primer. Evidently Federal is loading 10mm for leadless indoor range use. I'm beginning to be disenchanted with reloading 10mm; might just stick to 40 S&W.

Church Key.

I picked up 15 casings marked "A" at the range that I assumed were once fired. I used them for working up some full power loads (200gr HDY XTP JHP @ 1200~1257fps). I went through five loadings without any issues, using a .421" crimp ... last two loadings, max compressed 12.7 gr AA#9 and compressed 8.4gr Longshot with magnum primers, had case bulge .436", cratering around firing pin indentation, but no signs of casing split neck, case separation, or primer pocket enlargement. I tossed them after doing the load work up, although I saw no problems with the "A" brass, mainly because I have 1,000 new Starline Brass.

I can provide an address to toss all that stuff to my direction if y'all are all scared of it... its been loaded 5 times now for some of it here. 200 grain hard cast lead at 12.8 of AA 9 at 1283 FPS IIRC. Its 1250 plus for sure over the Oehler....pretty sure the average was 1283...

Guess this head cold got me... average was 1235 fps. FWIW. Still no issues.

FWIW, I've reloaded Armscor brass a lot in 9mm. dudel is right. Amerc brass is crap. I admit, I don't load it to levels that require Nuclear Regulatory Agency approval, because I just shoot competitively. I'm only trying to make 130 PF.
