i am new to reloading and i am wanting to load 40S&W to go in a glock 23. i am planning on using 125grain frangible bullets for target shooting and want a load that both me and my wife can shoot. currently living in an apartment but when i get a house i want to build an indoor range to shoot in and will be using the reloads in the range.

does anyone have any powder suggestions?

I've never loaded frangibles or a bullet that light. You will need a pretty high vel, 1000fps+, to get slide momentum or you will have to change recoil springs. My normal choice would be a good medium burner like Unique, WSF, PowerPistol, Universal, AA#7, HS6 or Longshot. You can try faster powders, W231, WST should get you there.

I use HP38 with the IMI frangibles from Widener's. I think it was somewhere around 5.0-5.2 grains at 1.126" oal. I'm away from my load data right now. Hodgdon's data for a similar bullet appeared to be close. I stayed near a midrange load, and didn't try a max load. Brass and primers look great, and I think I'm getting around 1050 fps out of the G22. Again, not near the data right now. Cycled the gun just fine.

I have never used frangible bullets or used anything as light as 125grain in my 40.
However I have had a lot of luck with WSF and Power Pistol with 40 SW and 9mm ( using 124 grain bullets.) SO that is were I would start.

The range i want to build will be in a seperate structure from the house, i am going to build a building to reload in and build the range connected to it. that way i can put in a ventilation system and be able to shoot safely.

Since you want to shoot indoors you will most likely want a powder without a lot of flash. I use Power Pistol but its flashy and is best suited for outdoor shooting. Longshot is kinda flashy also. The AA #7 and HS-6 have a low amount of muzzle flash.

i use aa#5 for the 40 s&w in my g23 and g27, both with a kkm barrel. now i don't run them hot. 180gr cast lead i drop 6.0grs. with standard primers it run 830 fps, with mag primers it runs 889 fps. with a 155 gr rainier bullet i drop 7.0grs, it runs 875 fps. in the g27, 155 rainier, 6.9grs, runs at 772 fps. the 180 cast, 6.0grs, runs at 781 fps. i got some 155 gr cast lead data somewhere. both loads work well in a kel tec p40 and s&w sigama.

Sinterfire recommends fast powders in general for frangibles. HP-38/W231 should be fine, Universal would be another. I use Titegroup in 9mm frangible loads.

Frangible bullets are long for their weight. Unless you have data specific for frangibles, they recommend using starting data for a jacketed bullet of equal length, not equal weight.
