Here are a few we like. CZ P-01 in a rather bizarre green color. This image does not do the pistol justice. It is MUCH uglier than the image. However, it feels great in the hand and is a good shooter:

CZ 97. Also a great shooter, but mags limited to 10 rounds in such a large pistol does not seem very efficient:

Of the personal choices, it boiled down to the two DA/SA platforms I shoot the most,

Personal preference for carry is cocked and locked.

Well, perhaps because most of the best non-1911 semi autos use hammers…just a guess.

Most of my auto-handguns are Glocks, the rest are 1911's or 1911 clones, never had any problems so I've never seen a reason to learn a new system.

It’s not really learning a new “system”. You pick it up and shoot it. Doesn’t man you need to carry it or use it for any defensive purpose.
