question about glock 40 magazine followers gen 3 vs 4

I purchased some used glock 22 magazines and expected to get gen 3 magazines that will be used in a gen 3 glock 22 with an after market lone wolf barrel and a glock slide.
When looking at the magazines I see three of them are cut for the mag latch on both sides and the followers are black as in a Gen 4. These followers are stamped 40. The other magazine is likely a gen 3 and follower is different in that the protruding lip of the follower is thinner. I can not read any thing on the follower and it may be worn away but mag body is stamped 40.
All magazines will lock back the slide. To be safe I will likely get a new follower for the g3 and likely install a new spring.
question: Were there different 40 magazine followers?

I will mark the used mags with new colored floor plates.

This G22 is meant to be carried on my little estate for self defense to include up to black bear and will replace the 9 mm pistol that I had been carrying. Bears have become quite numerous of late and I have a fruit orchard so I and my dogs might have a run in with one. They have been seen adjacent to my property.

I believe there have been approximately 15 different .40 caliber magazine followers over the years; which includes 10 and 15 round G22 mags and orange-colored followers for 10 & 15 round mags.

A picture of the top of the followers, front of mags, and back of mags may help.

I have a few different types of Glock 22 magazines (gen3/gen4) depending on the gun.

I primarily have Austria marked mags for my Gen3 RTF2 22 (believe #9 follower) and # marked mags for my Gen4 22 (believe #10 on follower.) I'll try to get some photos tomorrow. Realistically all mags will work in the Gen3, even the Gen5 ones. It becomes an issue on the Gen4/Gen5 guns only if you switch to the left handed magazine release and the magazine doesn't have a notch on both sides.

How far away are you from Glock in GA? A quick trip to them and they should replace your magazines with the newest ones.

It is a good drive to get there for sure. I am just outside of Pensacola, fl. I will buy a new follower when get around to it.

I have close to 40 lbs of brass on hand and 2nd hand police glock pistols used to not be too expensive for a civilian. 40 uses small pistol primers that are now plentiful at better prices. Only the powder is sky high, but last time I looked longshot was available at academy sports in Pensacola.
For CCW I am switching to the new 9mm CZ PO9C nocturne because it is safer for inside the waist band appendix carry.

I am ambidextrous and not into super fast mag changes. Position of the mag release right or left is not a big issue. I usually carry on the right side.
Can you list a source for new OEM mags in the low 20's. I have after market mags that are not metal lined.
Yes thanks I know of new followers and noticed them for sale.

As stated a few times, use them.

There was a transition period when there were malfunctions with Glock 22 Gen3 and early Gen4 guns with a weapons mounted light. Glock went from a 10 coil magazine spring to a 11 coil spring.

Followers went from a 9 to current 10.

Austria marked one is the older one on left, the newer #s marked one on right.

Call me anal retentive but I keep the Austria marked ones with my Gen3 and the #s marked one with my Gen4.
