So, I have a 22/45 5.5" Target, and I've looked into getting it turned and milled for a suppressor. Cost and lead times are a bad joke.

ETA: Yes, I've googled around on this. It's either GT or sifting through Reddit, but even reddit doesn't have what I'm looking for on this specific ask.

I'm considering another 22/45, since I've got a grip of mags for it, and I'm turned off by the Lite with its little shroud and thin barrel.

I'm gonna be running it suppressed, pretty much all the time. I've been running bulk out of the SR22 with the Sparrow on it, but yesterday, I got another fun crappy Winchester WB 333 KB, and although the SR22 was fine, it shot hot powder burst all over my left thumb in thumbs forward grip. Didn't lacerate or burn, but hurt like hell. I can't train new shooters on that, if we have the potential for that. I'm fine, but It'll scare someone new to guns into never touching a gun again.

Thoughts? I figure a 22/45 with the steel tube receiver can handle these rare events a lot more betterer. Is the Lite just as tough as the bull barrel threaded models? I also dislike the aesthetic and typically they're more.

Either this, or I go buy a lot more Minimag, and just start running Minimag through the SR22, which I had hoped bulk ammo would be ok in. It runs it fine, but I've had a few of these lately, and it's fine in a rifle, but out of a pistol it's a little nuts. Minimag is reserved for the LCP 2 22LR...

I simply don't wanna spend almost 9mm money on Minimag to shoot .22 all the time. I guess maybe the bulk .22 is for the standard 22/45 and the 10/22s.

Volquartsen was very reasonable. $125 and about two weeks turnaround. Mine came out great. There's really no comparison between the SR22 and the MK series.

I think I paid about $350 for a case of 5K rounds Minimag last go around. I doubt you will find a 5000 9mm rounds anywhere near that cost.

That's true, and I looked on line. About $450 shipped now for a 5K case of Minimag. I guess when you put it into perspective like that it's not bad. I just already have a LOT of bulk .22 and I know the 22/45 can run it fine.

The SR22 runs suppressed beautifully, especially with Minimag, but you're correct, the Mk series is something else for .22.

If I went milling route, I'd keep the front sight, but I like your setup. Very nice. Same Sparrow, too. How often you clean yours?

If you haven't seen this stuff yet I recommend you take a look. It cleaned off about 700 rounds of crap just letting it sit for about an hour.

Not hazmat according to the label.

I took the can apart and put it in a ziplock and added just enough to cover it.

Most everything wiped right off.

Not hazmat according to the label.

I took the can apart and put it in a ziplock and added just enough to cover it.

Most everything wiped right off.

I have a 22/45 Lite that I use for training new shooters. It has maybe 5,000 to 7,000 rounds through it and the only trouble I’ve experienced is the magazines get finicky fast if they’re not kept very clean and lubed. It’s not suppressed.

It’s a fun little gun and pretty accurate.

Mini-Mag 40's are 13 cents, which is the same as my current cost to load 9. They work great, and I think .22 bulk is a waste of time. Unlike centerfire, rimfire guns need more than minimum power to run 100%, and they need to be at least lightly cleaned each session.

I do not consider rimfire as a low-power analog for centerfire, I look at it as its own thing, with different strengths and weaknesses. You can't really fit .22 out as a complete practical training surrogate. So I just let it be what it is, and shoot administratively from low ready, per SCSA, etc.

For teaching squeamish people centerfire or ramping up your own rate of fire a bit, loading 9 down to sub-minor is the program. That way you keep all the functionality and are doing exactly the same thing, just at a reduced power.

Rimfire excels at driving transitions into hyperspace. You'll probably never be able to shoot centerfire at that rate live, but rimfire gives you a discharge/call/print and auditory feedback on steel. It's strongly mutually-reinforcing with centerfire.

Mine seems to shoot just about anything straight and without failures. That barrel set does look a little ify. It cycles standard velocity without problems and it very quiet with subsonic loads.

Well, my intelligent brainpower forgot to do math correctly. CCI Minimag at Walfart is $9.97. I figured 9mm is only $4-5 dollars more, per box.

What my brain decided to not pay attention to is yeah, CCI Minimags are pricey at $10... FOR 100 rounds, not just 50 rounds like 9mm pricing....

As I mentioned earlier, that really put it into perspective when he said you could get a flat of 5K or $350-450 ish. That many 9mm would be a thousand bucks.... Just went to It's $10 a box for 100 rounds. So, I'm gonna keep purchasing a couple boxes here and there when I'm there, and if I happen to walk by sporting goods and they have some.

Went to Walmart tonight to get more Minimags, and realized all this.. DUH. I got 5 boxes for $55 out the door. That's $110 for 1K of really good .22LR. 9mm isn't close, and I'm dumb.

Annnnyway. I'm gonna go back to my little cave now... ETA: Case and point: Sometimes we have momentary lapses of intelligence or brainpower. I posted this in General Glocking originally, I believe. It got moved here, which is where I should've posted it...

My LCP 22 found it likes 36 gr Varmint MMs; the SR22 does well with them, too. It did not like 36 gr target, as much. Did not try 40 gr. This whole thread began as I wanted to run the bulk stuff through the SR 22 suppressed, to keep the MM purchasing to a minimum. Now that I can add, again, MM isn't too expensive. Still happy I got that upper coming, and the bulk stuff will be for the ARC and 10/22s

I'll have to look into pricing on the bulk you're speaking of. I know HP vs RN in 22LR isn't a big deal; in fact many people want RN for added pentration. I'm not concerned with it either way. The LCP 2 is gonna lose so much velocity that the HPs will probably perform as RN.

I'm super unsophisticated with rimfire. I did buy a bunch of Clean-22 subsonics to try out, but the 40's run way better for me. And like I said, the bulk stuff is junk.

Yes, I understand. Bulk ammo is good for stuff like 10/22s though. It's just fun to plink sometimes.

I like the 22/45 lites. I have 2. They are twitchy as compared to my 5" bull barreled MKII. But with the suppressor, they feel about the same. Probably have 20k through one of them and about 7k though the other. Maybe half through each with the suppressor and they run fine.

I have 2 of the 3.5” Volquartsen cut uppers. IMO they’re the perfect length for surpressed shooting. In my experience they’re as accurate and reliable as my longer barreled MKIV’s. More accurate than my Mini Mamba and 2” barreled MKIV too. Cheap bulk HV ammo like Blazers stay subsonic which they eat like candy.
