“IF” you get a 1911 make sure you know how to check proper barrel link lest you pull the barrel lug off with “real” 10mm.
Just remember the 1911 was made for a 18 to 22k psi round, not 36k.

But 1911s can be tuned with recoil/hammer springs and flat firing pin stop, my 10mms and 38Super are tuned for the caliber.

I'm racking my brain trying to decide between a Delta Elite and a SA 10MM Ronin. It will be strictly for carry. Am I splitting hairs or are there factors that make one better than the other? I appreciate any thoughts you may have.
I will never buy another Springfield 1911 ever again. Get the Colt and send it off to get some tuning.

Bac has refined tastes.
Very true, whatever I carry on the ranch gets used sooner or later, all my 1911 Colts have been very reliable and have functioned very well when needed. :)

They can get very dirty, like this RIA did

A few hours on a John Deere tractor, cutting about 5 acres of ~3ft high, dried out range grass around a friend's home for a fire break, range fires are a serious, constant threat in this part of the high Arizona desert.

I didn’t say anything about springs?
No, you didn't, but you brought up the subject that 1911s weren't designed for operating at 36,000 psi. 10mm operating pressure is 37,500 psi, flat firing pin stops and balancing recoil/hammer spring rates is a common adaption for tuning reliable 10mm function. :)

Our SO issues Colts, apparently their real world experiences with build quality and performance are very different from your opinions. :)
Yeah well they probably aren’t used to shooting the best 1911’s. It’s all relative.

Low end 1911’s like Colts, aren’t guns I put in my collection.

Not saying they aren’t durable or do their job. They’re just a long, long way off from the 1911’s I shoot.

Well, as all the hardcore S&W .45 dudes at my range like to say:

“A Colt ain’t nuthin’ but a pony.” ;)

Smoothest-shooting .45 “1911” I ever owned:

No, but you implied there's a question on the suitability of the 1911 for the 10mm.
Yet none of that has anything to do with improperly set up links.
And even the Delta Elites have had serious issues in their history.
It’s not like it’s a rumor.
“Implication” is saying something without being direct. I pointed out a specific know issue. Various brands have been know to break off the barrel lugs.
I didn’t say a fine 1911 couldn’t do it. But other modern guns have an obviously larger strength threshold.
A Ruger Blackhawk can take loads a 1873 Colt can’t, there’s little wonder why.

I'd go with colt of those two choices.
now if I was gonna carry a 10 it would be a S&W model 1066.
I hear ya, and I do ....

Top: M1066.
Bottom: M1013.

I know what I've done having been in this scenario a couple of times. This is how I look at it especially for a daily carry.

And still have change left to get whatever it needs to run perfectly if it doesn't from the start. Not to mention front strap checkering and still have less invested than the Colt

10mm Ronin, without a doubt.

I have probably bought at least half a dozen Colt 1911's over the last 30 years, including a Delta Elite. Every one was a piece of crap coming out of the box (including the Delta Elite). Loose slide to frame fit, crap trigger that require a gunsmith, poor quality control. The last Colt I bought was a Commander, because I wanted one that said "Colt" for some reason, and that was the last straw. I hated it so much that I sold it at about a $300 loss and used the money to buy a Springfield Armory Garrison 4.25" and was happy to take the loss. Like most Springfields, even the cheapest ones, the Garrison came out of the box with a great trigger - match quality - perfect slide-to-frame fit with no movement, and not a single fit and finish flaw. I have 5 Springfield 1911's and no intention of buying another brand.

I'd have to pay the price of a Springfield Ronin to a gunsmith to make my Delta Elite match a straight-from-the-box Springfield.
