The Beretta APX A1 is a thick and well built tank of a pistol. Maybe not the best for conceal carry, but I’m shocked it’s not more popular in the United States. Especially given its price. It’s a chassis style like Sig but shoots much better and seems more stout of a pistol. Lower bore axis, flatter shooting, incredibly reliable for me. I liked it so much I picked up another. Magazines are very well priced. Right in line with Glock prices.

The only con I don’t like is the lack of holsters available (then again I don’t carry mine because of the thickness) and the finish. It seems to wear just by looking at it.

Anyone else own the A1 and think it’s better than a lot of handguns on the market? I love mine, and it’s my favorite thus far for striker fired polymer.

Another option in a sea of contenders. Yeah it's fine and great but without being market popular, will stay niche and poorly supported. Plenty of other options in that price range. All are "great".

Cheap to buy but mags are expensive, Beretta customer service sucks, few holster and accessories choices....blah, blah...

The original APX and the A1 version are very nice solid pistols. The problem at least in the LE sector, is Beretta support sucks, and there is a distinct lack of duty holster choices.

The two handguns that enjoyed almost an overnight success, Glock and the P320. The simple fact is, if you can get handgun into the holsters of either LE or the Military, consumers will buy them. Doesn't matter is they are good or not usually.

Glock was giving away their pistols when they were first imported and they were trying to lock down some contracts. The got NYPD and a few larger agencies and they were off and running.

Sig did the same thing back in 2015 when they were releasing the 320 series. Sig came to several of our LE ranges and academies and were letting officers try them out. At the time, we as LE firearms instructors could purchase 320's directly from Sig for less than $300 with night sights and three magazines. in 2016 Sig was awarded the contract of the MHS trials, and the rest is history.

Top all that off with the fact both Glock and Sig had previously contacted Safariland and had several duty holster options available at the time they were released.

It's not about the product in an of itself, it's about how fast and how many of them you can get it out in the market, and how well you support it.

The Echelon, VP9, APX, etc are perfect examples. Virtually no support, not much of a discount for LE IOP or departments and limited holsters.

The APX makes the PX4 look like one of the most beautiful guns in the world. For a striker fired gun, it’ll give Sig a run for their money though. Especially on price-

:p

About a year ago I was considering the APX A1 carry but then did a comparison with my M&P 40c on Handgun Hero. The 40c is probably the shortest grip (with stock baseplate extensions). The Beretta is much too small even though it is within my price range (when on sale plus rebate.......).

Mags can be had for $20 to $25.

The original APX made no sense to the eyes, but perfect sense to the hand.
I bought mine for like 300 bucks brand new and it's a great gun.

Beretta kind of pissed me off with the A1 carry pistol I bought, so I'm off Beretta currently.

It's my EDC. I own HK's, an M&P Shield Plus and 2.0 Compact, Beretta PX4, CZ P01, P07, 75 Compact, Springfield XD, XD Mod 2, and Hellcat, Walthers, and Glocks. I Also own A BUNCH of single stacks in various calibers and platforms. I am a small frame man, and I EDC my APX A0 OWB and IWB concealed often with just a t-shirt on without a problem. I took these picks just now....

far as the slide being HUGE goes. Lets compare it to other pistols.

M&P 2.0 on the top. APX on the bottom. The slide width is about the same. The APX has the large backstrap installed and the 2.0 has the small installed IIRC, so that's why the APX's grip is fatter.

Both pistols are listed at 1.3 inches wide. The width is the same. The only difference that near the top the slide only, the front half near the muzzle end of the M&P 2.0's slide contours inward giving the 2.0 the appearance of being a much thinner gun when it is in fact not.

APX vs Glock slide.

The CZ P10c (thinnest out of all), Walther, and HK. Keep in mind the over all width of the PPQ and VP9 is wider than the APX.

The fact is that the APX slide isn't that much larger or is about a simular width as other popular offerings on the market. There is NOT a HUGE difference in frame thickness. Excluding the CZ P10c and Glocks, the APX slide is about the same size of everything else. Any difference either way is negligible.

I have the large backstrap on the APX, so it makes the frame look bigger. The width of the CZ P07 and P09 are relatively the same with the CZ being thicker at just over 29 mm or 1.065".
