Handled one of these in a LGS. Some nice work by EB turning a lousy 2011 into something pretty nice.

Better finish and they got rid of the cheap parts. Some cosmetic work also.

I handled the Staccato P, which is a gun I wanted for a while, and the Prodigy side-by-side in the gun store. I really wanted to like the Staccato P and I think it’s a good gun, but I didn’t like the beavertail on it (I’d prefer something more upswept) and the trigger was just ok for me at the weight it was set. Just in terms of feel in the hand, I actually liked the Prodigy better. Of course, the Prodigy was a cheaper build, so I’m not claiming it’s a better gun, but with upgraded components and tuning from Ed Brown it could be every bit as good.

I presume Ed Brown offers their warranty with the Fueled Prodigy, since it looks like it’s sold as an EB gun and not simply an upgrade package. Do you know if that’s the case?

I’d have to handle them back to back, but I wouldn’t doubt that the Ed Brown is the nicer pistol.

I'm trying to get behind the motives of Ed Brown and I'll have to confirm my ignorance here. Are 2011 parts drop-ins with a 1911 or for instance the sear disconnector and hammer have a different geometry? Some parts like thumb safety are always a fitted part obviously. If they are not then it's an obvious revenue stream to upgrade other 2011 parts and get into the market that Wilson combat holds market share in the bits and bobs business for 1911.

Or maybe the aim is to get into the send in semi custom gig where it's just a massive potential revenue stream for existing 2011 pistols.

If that is not the goal then I'm not sure besides just another option for those interested in a 2011 who this product is for.

Anyone considering a Staccato or Bul Armory now has another attractive offering. The upgraded components, tuning, mill work, and coating along with an Ed Brown lifetime warranty that transfers with the gun is decent value at $2,395. It brings more customers to Ed Brown for components, tuning and guns, without the added expense of the R&D that goes into a ground up build, and those customer may eventually turn to more expensive models that are offered.

Seeing this thread again reminds me.of a guy in a group on Facebook who mentioned he bought a Taurus 1911 and replaced parts as they broke. He mostly did it for fun. He also did it to nut up the guys he was competing against with higher end guns.

Also reminds me when Springfield came out with the Operator with rail for the first time. They had one model with all the usual stuff while the USGI looking one was just using GI parts as placeholders.

Absolutely a project gun. Kind of like how people have rat rods.

I own a Staccato P and love it, but I love the Stealth Arms Platypus that I own a little more.

If you're in the market for a 2011 type gun I strongly recommend taking a look at the Platypus. Its a hand built, completely customizable pistol THAT TAKES GLOCK 17 MAGS.

I have over a thousand rounds through mine now and have never had a single hiccup.
