I've got an acquaintance who might be selling his Walther PPKs stainless steel pistol. This gun is made in the US and is chambered for .22 caliber LR cartridges. Has anyone shot one or does anybody own one? How do they function? Reliable? Accurate? Rust resistant? Ammo sensitive?

About 30 years ago I owned an Iver Johnson TP22, which is sort of a clone of the PPK and it worked fine with CCI Stingers. My Glock 44 seems to run well with most loads and fellow GT members say CCI: mini-mags run well in their 44s. Perhaps a good choice the PPK?

I don't know if I'd ever CC the gun, but as a novelty piece it has some attraction.

Thanks for the input.

I've had a couple of PPK/Ss and they were good guns, 100% reliable, but never the .22.

The only use I can see for the .22 is to have a cool movie secret agent gun if you get a blue one with extended barrel and a suppressor. Otherwise, what purpose does it serve? (Assuming that "cool movie secret agent gun" is a purpose)

Walther PPK, or better yet, a PP, is a very fine gun if chambered in .22LR and made in Germany or France. Avoid all other calibers and American-made replicas.

I have several Manurhin and Walther .22lr PP and PPK/S pistols (as well as a TPH). They run fine once broken in. I can’t vouch for the stainless American guns but the fixed barrel yields very good accuracy.

I would pass. Don't need the slide bite or reliability issues.
Yep, that sharp tang will definitely draw blood and leave a lasting mark. Don't ask how I know. o_O

The modern PPKs and PPK/S models currently being manufactured by Walther in the US are updated and very shootable. The 22 LR version you see in gun shops is not made by Walther, but rather under license by Umarex. The one's i've handled feel like they are made of pot metal.

They are

It’s not steel. Lots of zinc content

Why? Mine ran great. 22 is fun & cheap. Especially with a can.
Oh, not saying .22 in a PPK won’t work, but every form for its purpose. A 1911 is meant, in its DNA to run 45s. A 1911 in 22, which I think is laughable in concept, may exist, but it is NOT what a 1911 was meant for. You may as well have a P08 in 22.

The PPK was originally developed for the 32 cartridge, a police standard at the time. This was the round Major Boothroyd said delivered a blow like a brick through a window. And it is wonderful with 32.

Times change, tastes change, and the PPK was upscaled to 380, arguably not the best round for it, suffering the same fate as the Mauser HSc when it was boosted from 32 to 380.

So, real PPKs are made in Germany by Walther in 32. Mine is a SmithWalther in 380 made in the US, so yes, I have PPK envy and lust.

The Brit special services had a history of using the PP in .22.
Personally, I prefer the PP. I had one in .32, one of the European police pistols. It was a great shooting pistol, one I regret letting get away.
I recently inherited a PP in 22 LR. I have never shot it and it is in amazing condition. It's a cool looking pistol but it and maybe the PPK/S are going to be sold off.
