I just recently acquired a gen 5 with tru glow three dot night sights and an apex trigger. The gen 4 is stock With the stock sights. I had glocks in the past and sold or traded them and am just getting back into them. Using the same ammo, 115 and 124 gr, I am able to shoot the gen 5 much more accurate than the gen 4 to the point I am disappointed with the gen 4. Is it me, the sights possibly, or just the gen 5 being better? Trigger seems ok to me on the gen 4. My question, would putting the gen 5 barrel in the gen 4 make it shoot better and is it ok to do? Or do they make a good aftermarket barrel that would make it more like the gen 5? I have a ss nine xnine barrel that I tried and it didn’t seem to change much in the gen 4.

It could be the trigger... You are running a better trigger in the Gen 5 ..imho.. The Gen 5s have better stock triggers than the Gen 4s...and the marksman barrels which some claim are more accurate..ymmv

I’ve put tens of thousands of rounds through Gen 4 and Gen 5 G17s, so I have enough exposure to both to say you won’t see an appreciable difference in the accuracy of one versus the other. The GLOCK Marksmanship Barrel is touted as more accurate, but the difference on target is minuscule at best. Tolerances can vary on GLOCKs within a Gen and across Gens, but the difference is probably in the trigger or sights in your case. I typically use a GLOCK OEM minus connector in my GLOCKs and I change the sights to a fiber optic front and black serrated rear sight. These two changes help me perform better with my GLOCKs. Since you have an aftermarket trigger in your Gen 5, it may also be lighter than you Gen 4. And you may see the sights better in the Gen 5 as well. I wouldn’t invest in a new barrel for the Gen 4. Perhaps go to a range and rent a Gen 4 and see if you get similar results as you do with your Gen 4.

How good are your fundamental handgun skills?

Gun should not make a difference.

How are you determining that? What does much more mean?
My fundamentals are ok. I shoot most other handguns I have fairly well.
when I shoot the gen 5, it hits where I aim and if I pull a shot I know that it was me. With the gen 4, I am all over, no consistency, and think I am getting good trigger pulls but it’s not hitting where it should or consistent. I’m thinking it might be the stock u shape rear sight that my eyes can’t see as good as three dot. The trigger may make more of a difference than what I thought too.

I am thinking of doing that, just wanted to make sure it wouldn’t hurt anything. I think the top part of the barrel is slightly different between the two.
It won't hurt anything. Lug pattern didn't change between those generations on the 19. I use a gen5 g34 barrel in a gen4 slide with gen4 g19 frame. Same difference. Locks up and functions well.

The barrel on the Gen 5 is crowned, but that doesn’t matter. The barrels should have the same dimensions. You can call GLOCK to confirm it, but KKM sells the same G19 barrels for Gen 4 and Gen 5.

I’m leaning towards the sights for sure and maybe the trigger break is better than what I can tell by feel. I shoot in my yard under hemlocks and the lighting isn’t very good especially when it was rainy and snowy so the sights and my eyes might be the issue.I do have them both set up with no grip panel and may try adding the medium size to see if it makes any difference. I will also try the gen 5 barrel to see if it does anything. Thanks all for the help!

Work on your fundamentals: grip/stance, sight picture, trigger control.

I own a bunch of Gen 4s and a few Gen 3s, all in multiple calibers. I've shot a few Gen 5s only in 9mm. I don't like the grip on the Gen 5 and the ambi slide lock does nothing for me. Other than that, I don't see a nickels difference shooting any of them. I don't find the stock triggers to be any better from one to another and same with the barrels. Not knocking any of them, but I think some guns and people are a better fit.

Fix your grip. You should have no trouble with a Beretta 92 in double action as compared to a 1911 or your Glocks.

This is a simple combination of sights and trigger. I might have missed the details. But what are the details?

slow fire 25y?

par time in a bill drill?

10-10-10 drill?
I agree with the sights for sure and the trigger being different might be it too. I haven’t shot them much yet but distance is 15 yards and not slow or fast but trying to shoot for accuracy at a 3x3 post it note on a pc of copy paper. I really think the stock Glock sights and my eyesight might be my issue. My other handguns with three dot sights, both white and night sights, I don’t have any problem with. I’ve been shooting a lot of red and green dot sights too at 15 to 20 and also out to 30 yards with decent results. I just can’t figure out why the difference between two almost identical guns.

Are the grips different other than the grooves vs no groove on the gen 5? I thought they were the same size except for the grooves. If the gen 5 grip is different then that could be causing my problem.
