I agree

Turkish gun would go. In fact, a Walther Q5 SF would face been the way to go over both of those.
I prefer steel over aluminum frames, so I can see why you’d throw the Walther in the mix, not to mention Walther did a great job with the Q5 SF. Having said that, there’s a lot to like about that S&W. My friend picked one up earlier this year and I wasn’t familiar with the gun at the time. After handling it, I was pleasantly surprised by it and can see why people like those as well.

The Smith is a decent pistol

As a Q4 SF, CZ Shadow 2, and Beretta 92x Performance owner, my vote is to sell both, and buy a Q5 SF. It's better quality and competition striker than both those options. Plus steel competition/range pistols > than polymer and aluminum IMHO. They also typically hold resale and collectors value better.

Between the Canik and M&P you own, keep the one that fits your hand and you shoot the best. I've never been a fan of the M&P grip. I own a M&P 2.0 4" Compact with threaded barrel and APEX competition trigger, and it's not one of my favorites to shoot. I have no personal experience with the Canik....

As far as long-term CS goes, that wouldn't be a factor for me. Both company's customer and warranty aren't going anywhere soon. 10, 20, 30 years from now those pistols will probably be obsolete, and/or no longer supported by either manufacturer as they'd probably would have discontinued or moved on to a different generation, and they no longer will support the older gens. When I find a gun I really, really, really like, I typically will buy multiples, and stock up on spear wear parts. That way it's longevity is in my hands and not the manufacturer's.

The M&P was a development from the Sigma pistols.
The Sigma was so much like the Glock that they sued S&W and won, forcing S&W to pay Glock a percentage for every unit sold.
So it’s not really a stretch to call it a clone or derivative.
Just my opinion.
Major stretch

The M&P is quite a bit different than the Sigma and not really any more like a Glock than several other polymers.

Plenty of Glock clones around now that the patent is up. The M&P isn’t one of them.

You have your opinion and I have mine.
Really every striker fired pistol made since the mid 80’s shares some DNA with Glock.
Again, my opinion.
YMMV
Sharing DNA, yes. Just like a Glock uses a Browning style locking system, like a 1911 and a locking block like a Sig.

You called it a clone. I guess the CZ P10, Beretta APX, Ruger SR9, etc, etc are clones also. Heck, let’s call the new SA Echelon a clone too while we’re at it.

I had the Smith for a short time. Decent pistol, but I wasn’t shooting it.

I don’t buy Turkish guns, but I imagine that shoots well
Hi Brian,
May I ask the reason you don’t buy Turkish guns? Is the quality level not to your liking or some other issue with Turkish firearms I have not considered?

With my two Caniks and five Tisas I am helping Turkey’s balance of payments issues (if they have any…). My main interest is why you are avoiding all Turkish firearms.

Aaaaaaaaaand this is why I am not really interested in staying on this forum after only about one week.
I offer my opinion on ANY post and there’s always at least one person who wants to argue with what I said to show how much better their opinions are than mine.
Peace out.

Wow ok

You see clones pop up now that the patent is up. Those are the Glock clones. You also see CZ clones because it was never patented. You also see 1911 clones because it’s long expired.

I was just trying to explain a clone. Sorry you have to “peace out” over it.
