This will be my last purchase of a Taurus product. I bought a M-65 .357 and was all excited about getting a 3" .357 again. Well one of the chamber's wouldn't extract and I'd have to force the casing out with a rod. There was a burr inside one of them, that, and the gun shot awfully low and grouped poorly even at 20' to 30'. So I returned the gun and after about a month I e-mailed Taurus about it. I got a generic "it takes about a month to resolve issue" return E-mail. So I wait, and wait, and after about 3 more weeks I E-mail again 3 separate times and didn't get an answer. Finally I got an E-mail that basically said "did you send this gun in and is it here"?

Finally! I got an E-mail saying the gun is a bad apple, is going to be destroyed, and were offering a replacement or refund. I would have taken the refund but I have already bought accessory's for the gun and didn't want to lose out on it. So now I have to pay an additional FFL transfer fee. They not only hadn't known the gun was bad but they didn't even know if they had it. This was a pretty bad experience and one that wont be repeated.

Sorry about your experience with Taurus but many folks avoid them at all costs because of things like this, myself included. I’m sure they’ll be along shortly, as well as the folks that have them and love them.

Taurus quality is spotty. Have a 856ul I had to send back for cylinder lock up. Taurus repaired it and sent it back. Been good since. But I won’t buy another one. Have a S&W 642 and 625 and Ruger SP- 101. . All flawless. I’ll only purchase S&W and Ruger.

I have had a couple of them over the years, as well as a few from Charter Arms. Never any problems with any of them, but they are all gone. Gritty triggers, poor fit and finish. You get what you pay for. I currently have a BFR, Smith, and Dan Wesson for revolvers, and have owned many different Rugers. Happy with all of them.

I had an ultralite snub that worked fine but sold it to upgrade to a 340PD.

I hear all these stories and stay away.

But they do have a lot of appealing models that call to me. And without ugly side locks. And with increasing complaints about dropping quality from Smith and Colt wheel guns, might Taurus become the more cost effective gamble for a new revolver? Probably not. But that would be a real plot twist!

I just bought a new TX22 and I am not happy with it . Before I ever shot it , it wouldn’t reassemble properly . The barrel and recoil spring would stick out of the slide about an inch . I could pull the trigger and then it would fall in place . I kept reassembling it and finally it goes together properly . So I shot it and it is not very accurate at all and this is from a bench and trying 12 or 13 different types of ammunition at 10 yards . I can see that the rear sight adjustment screw is moving under recoil . I called Taurus and they want me to send it back , but I ordered some different sights and a new barrel last weekend when they had 20% of sale and I will go down the rabbit hole trying to get it to shoot more accurate myself . I really shouldn’t complain , kind of like the OP . They offered me to send it back , but I chose not to . They offered the OP a refund and he chose not to take it .

A close friend of mine bought a .Taurus 22 revolver a few years ago . That model is now discontinued , it had a 5” barrel . The action locked up and he sent it back . They told him that they couldn’t fix it and that model had been discontinued and they could replace it with the new model , but it only had a 3” barrel . He took the replacement and paid another FFL fee . His turnaround was very quick . He doesn’t trust Taurus guns now and is thinking about selling the new revolver before he shoots it and he doesn’t like the 3” barrel . He is going to be at a loss like the OP and me .

Bummer man. I've been aware of Taurus revolver QC problems since the early 90s when my buddy had a Mod66 that would skip a chamber randomly.

I feel like they are like a Chinese ratchet. You might get a good one that you use for the rest of your life with no problems. You might get one that breaks the first time you use it.

No way to tell what you will get.

Thank you all for this thread. 😁

Yesterday I read about the Taurus 692. A 7 shot .357/.38 with a 9mm cylinder and a 3” barrel. I went to my FGS (favorite gun store) to use their range and after shooting I perused the gun displays and “Wallah”! I saw a black Taurus 692 for $550. It must be fate.
Since then I have been debating how to buy this as I recently purchased a Ruger SFAR and really don’t have the expendable money for this revolver.

You all just helped me solve my dilemma. Someone else can have it. Thank you. 😉

Thought it was a Cardinal Rule on this forum that GT bros don’t let their other GT bros buy Taurus’s?

A similar thing happened to my M605 .357 about 20 years ago. Cylinder locked up while at the range and they told me to send to them with live rounds still in it LOL. I haven't bought a Taurus since then.

Taurus guns for the money are OK. as you have found out, their service SUCKS Big Time. i had worst experience than you with their service department. having said that, i have a TX22. one of the best 22s that i have ever owned. if it needs repaired, i will fix it myself. if that is not possible, i will trash it before i deal with their service department again.
